    Balancing Cardio & lifting?

    I feel like in the last few years my heartrate has been elevated higher in my normal 60-70min lifting. I havent really been great at cardio historically because its never been an issue.

    How are you 30-35year+ olds balancing cardio and lifting? How much cardio should I consider adding in to see if that might help improve my heart rate?

    I lift weights by priority right now. I keep up my long-distance cardio daily, but it is far from the first thing I work on.

    I remember seeing some YT exposé on bb.com video like 14 years ago that quoted one of your posts in the misc lol.

    Game changer for me. Thanks to their programming philosophy, I was hitting PRs in the gym when I ran my first half marathon, then later was doing some long endurance events while still keeping my strength. Highly recommend it.

    Wow, that's quite impressive.

    Were your PRs squat/deadlift numbers alongside the distance running? I could see it not impinging the bench too much, but not with the lower body.

    I have been able to run 6-10 mile stints but only squatting/deadlifting at maintenance levels of performance concurrently.
    Bench: 350
    Squat: 405
    Deadlift: 505

    I start about 5-10 minutes of strict form cardio to start out. It's a pretty modest pace considering the attention to form. From there I do it as regularly and at any point of my workout but try to only raise the time based on my observed ability to do it every day, so it's gradual.

    Cardio day is running, 1 an exercise, rear delts and burpees

    Sorry I'm a few days late in answering. TB isn't rocket surgery, it's just a smart dead simple way of periodization and adapting mileage based off of your % for that week. One of the main trainers (who has since left and started his own thing) had a ~1300 total when he ran a sub 2 hour marathon.

    It's not a program that will get you to pull 600 pounds or run a 100 mile trail run, but you could potentially pull 500 while being able to run a marathon.
