Problem with rubber grip twisting on old Pro Rexan power block set

I have this old set of power blocks. I’m having a problem with the handles twisting when I get to heavier weights. I’ve heard about the knurled stainless steel handle replacements. I’ve considered them, but they’re kind of pricey. I’ve also looked into the company and getting a complete new handle set. Does anyone else have any other suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I think someone else posted this a while ago. I didn't see it resolved but hopefully someone can suggest something outside of new handles as a lot of people don't like the newer contour as much as the set you have (and I have the same older Pro Rexan set so I get the attachment here). You might search for the older thread - within the last year I think - to see if anyone came up with something there but otherwise maybe one of the members can suggest a repair method.

Have you tightened the bolts holding the handles at all?




Now if it's just the rubber twisting and not the entire handle, I would suggest trying Lube N Glue (that is what is used on Life Fitness, Cybex, etc. rubber grips).

I believe it’s just the rubber twisting. They are old, they’ve had a lot of use and I think the rubber is just loosening up. I notice it a lot more at heavier weights. What is lube and glue? Where do you get it?

I don't know how this model compares to the current models, but you might reach out to PowerBlock and see if the handle is replaceable and if you can order new ones. The current handles may fit and they should be able to tell you.

Haven't run into that issue yet with my latest Pro Rexan set, but if it got bad I'd probably research various aftermarket grips and just replace it myself. Similar to what Duplicitous suggested, maybe even replace them with the same stuff they put on golf clubs or tennis rackets if the old foam wasn't salvageable. It lubricates the inside of the rubber so you can slide it on more easily, but keeps it glued in place once it dries. If you want a really low budget option to try, get some cheap hairspray (e.g. Aquanet) and spray it inside the rubber in the same fashion.

Agree. PowerBlock may help out. I think you also could use Gorilla Glue silicon glue - Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon.
