This was all at a 3-4 RIR today and pretty easy.
Easing back into stuff.
Ran out of time waiting for leg extensions, so I’ll just toss them on another day.
Didn’t do belt or pendulum squats, because my knee feels really bad in them currently and the harness for the belt squats gave me insane bruising last time.
Looked like someone took a bat to my
Sides.
Might eventually just get back to squatting 2x a week and then placing accessory quad stuff sprinkled throughout other days.
We will see. Just trying to manage knee pain for now.
3-4 weeks is the aim for pulling and squatting 400+ again for reps.
I think that’s a sufficient initiation period for getting tissues to adapt to workloads again without killing myself.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

One thing that made a great impression on me as a young lifter “you want big arms? Work your way to a set of 8 with 135 lbs…you’ll have big arms”
That molded my mentality for training….strength and hypertrophy go hand in hand given the rep range 5-8.
I know for a period in life I was using 135 for a few sets and 60lb db curls…
Currently I pyramid my bb curls up to usually 125-130 and my db curls are just 8 reps with 48 lbs. Definitely a goal worth pursuing…get those 45s on the long bar and curl in the squat rack ha ha."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. Im using a lot higher reps now on everything *until I’m warmed up*…so the first exercise will have sets 15-20,12-15, 10-12…but I’m still hitting a lot of 3-8. Just figure for bodybuilding it’s better to recruit fibers more slowly, warm up better ….especially at my age."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. I have managed 135 x 6 two or three times in my life, although they were certainly at least somewhat cheated. Biceps have always come easier and been a strong point for me.
EDIT: The most amazing curl I've ever seen, though, was in college. There was a guy who regularly worked out in the school gym and he was jacked, and would "twist" curl 100s for sets of 12 with speed and apparent ease. Real jaw-dropping lift. It's ironic, because curls are the butt of many jokes about teenagers who think they lift by nearly only doing them, and for that inordinately common, yet an actually truly strong curl like that is very rarely seen.Last edited by EliKoehn; 02-03-2022 at 06:09 AM.

Short workout today.
Sumo DL
365 - 5X6
OHP
155 - 5X5
Chin ups
4x5
The sumo pulls felt easy with straps. I tried to pull without straps and got a really gnarly electric sort of shock feeling all throughout my left arm.. Shoulder to fingers. Going to need to talk to someone about that. Not the first time it happened but this was way more intense than in the past and actually hurt. Happen to anyone else before?
OHP was ****. Every set after the first felt like a 9.5 or a 10. Realistically this is a pretty heavy weight and I should be happy with it.
135 pound curls seem extremely heavy. Definitely could not get even one Rep.Recent best lifts
Bench - 225x13, 235x9, 250x5, 280x1
Squat - 295x10, 340x5, 375x1
Deadlift - 430x12, 450x9, 485x5, 515x1
OHP - 150x11, 170x6, 185x2, 190x1

^^ that electric feeling in arm doesn’t sound good. Maybe your arm was pulled out of its socket? Lol
If that was me I’d probably just keep an eye on it….IME getting proper medical advice from a general doctor is a waste of time, they’re just going to tell you to stop lifting
——
Yesterday I got 135x7 curls. These definitely aren’t strict form but not like reverse grip cleans either. Idk where I went to go with these curls but heavier and more reps the better
And 185x5 strict press (I’ve done 195x5 tho). A couple weeks ago I could only get 3
I’ve been drinking a lot of chocolate milk lately, maybe that’s helping my strength come back hahaBest lifts:
Bench press: 315x4, 345x1
Squat: 465x1
Strict press: 185x8, 195x5
Deadlift: 405x13 (conv tap'n'go with straps)

Honestly wish I could do proper curls. My elbows don't let me. I can do hammer curls, but that's about it. Did barbell curls with like 95 pounds a couple times last year, but I'm scared every time I do them. I get something similar to the electric shock thing Millz mentioned. It's no fun at all. And regarding that, this is a total guess but it feels like a ligament or tendon issue. Something getting pinched or rubbing wrong. I don't think there's any harm in getting it checked out by a doctor. Regardless, probably best not to put yourself in the position that you know causes it (just use the straps).
February 3, 2021: Bench Press
95 pounds + 4 Chain x 3 reps
These last 2 days I've been dealing with the worst DOM's I've had in years - from hitting golf balls, lmao. Needed to get my mind on something else after leaving my job on the final day, so I went and pounded golf balls for 30 minutes. Figure I easily hit over a hundred balls in 30 minutes after not hitting a single ball for 2 or 3 years. Was not expecting it to wreck me like it did. My left lat was cramping up when I laid down to sleep that night, and I could hardly grip anything with my left hand yesterday. Feeling marginally better today.
Anyway, that's the primary reason I didn't lift yesterday. Got back to it today with some benching. With the chains this was close to 170 at the top of the lift. Happy to have hit a triple pretty easily (6-7 RPE). I think I should be back to going all out again starting in my next session. The Flywheel Effect - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=172103043

As someone who has been dealing with issues in his left shoulder/arm for half a year.
Go to a PT and maybe get a doctor to send you for some tests.
You could have something pinching causing it.
I had it for a few months and comes back now and then when my shoulder/neck are extra irritated.
Also I prescribe more to the John Meadows school of thought for curls.
Less about absolute load and more so getting nasty pumps. But I also get horrible tendinitis if I train curls too heavy too often, so BFR and/or short rest periods, and other intensity techniques seem more beneficial, especially since heavy pulling movements will take care of some growth, using curls as an opportunity to give some novel stimulus tends gives the best of both worlds.Last edited by Filmbuff81; 02-03-2022 at 12:06 PM.

Lol,
Well….not what I was thinking but I can’t speak for the rest of the gang.
Eli, just meant that for a lifter that doesn’t do curls, it’s gotta be that much more annoying to not have access to a squat rack due to bros curling in it. Surely that’s still an issue in todays gyms as it was back in the 80s, 90s…heck on Mondays, “international bench day”, bros are benching in squat racks."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. That's very strong, but I've got to say I think those aren't full RoM reps. It looked like you were going only halfway up.
For the purposes of the group competition we always did everything to a full lockout ITT.
That said, I forgot to pause on my max and still counted it (albeit as touch and go), so that too fell short of IPF or USAPL standards.Bench: 320
