Do you deadlift on an at least near-weekly basis?

Conventional, sumo, dumbbell, hex-bar or any sort of added resistance to bringing an added resistance of dead weight from the floor to a full stand.

For reference, I am totally and unashamedly of the conviction that the deadlift is King of Exercises.

Just asking for a show of hands.

    So, do you deadlift regularly?

EDIT: Obviously this poll is kind of poking fun at an ongoing debate. Don't vote if the "camps" in the options offend you.

I have a love/hate relationship with the deadlift.

I do it regularly but I need to keep volume low and build it via variations instead.

Very wide sumo is the only thing that works for me anything else gives me extreme low back pain and yes deadlifts are a staple

Only for a top single to keep the skill. Volume work with deadlifts isn’t the best strategy to build the deadlift anyway, unless you enjoy doing that

    Came here to say this.

There is no “king of exercises” and whomever made up that moniker needs to be dug up and punched really hard in the face.

And why do some many random alts come into these parts of the forum and spam threads all the time?

1.) Whoever*. It's subjective case. Though you may think that adding an M makes your statement fancier, it is still grammatically incorrect.

2.) I'm a random alt account? That's funny coming from the guy who joined later than I did, has an obvious chip when conventional free weights are mentioned, and routinely doles criticism without having even once uploaded a lift. Get real dude.

You don't have to click on, read, or post in any of the threads that I start. That you choose to do so is your decision. Many which are light in tone or completely unserious are started daily by longstanding members with an established reputation here, obviously. You are consistently rude to me while I am near-always courteous to you, even in our disagreements. If not once or twice, it was in clear reciprocation after a long pattern of this and not instigated by me.

And since you're feeling entitled to accuse of posing, I'll go ahead and say it: if you're going to claim to be 23% at 294 pounds, don't deliberately hide your love handles in your one photo where that's not patently false.

Eli, he was not talking about you being the random account, he meant the guy who has spammed dozens of threads in this workout program section.

When I was deadlifting with the purpose of increasing my max I would deadlift once every 10-14 days.

I love deadlifts as a way to test strength.

It’s an exercise that can be done with huge totals even without much training provided the lifter already understands how to protect his back the same way you would while squatting.

As far as training the lift, it’s taxing at high intensity so once a week or even every other week in place of squats on leg day is just fine in my opinion. I can walk into the gym and pull five hundred plus and only do the lift once a year or even every few years just because of the leg and back work I already do.

Now obviously if I seriously trained for deadlifts expert level technique, I’d want more practice! My son and I are talking about that now….we at the moment, have only 400 lbs of Olympic weights….so would require a trip to the school gym.

In my experience with half dedicated football kids, a 500 pound deadlift at age 15-16 is a reasonable possibility but most often happens at age 17-18 as kids tend to play multiple sports and have reduced weight room commitment and poor diets.

What I did with these kids is extremely simple.

Tuesday and Friday lifts focused on legs. Squats, leg press, deadlifts, front squats. I tested dead’s every 8 weeks. They deadlifted only on Fridays. We trained 3 sets 3-5 reps adding weight when five reps could be completed.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

I try to. Twice a week, once a week, but I have weeks when I don't do it at all, unfortunately.
Usually, conventional. I like hexbar too. Sumo kills my adductors.
It is one of my favorite lifts.
At first, it had a high SFR for me, but in time, it got better.

Well duh they have the best leverage to produce force when the hips are highly abducted like that

Speaking of hex bars, man I was salty on Friday…

I did a second workout at the local gym I go to on weekdays since I was waiting on the Mrs to get off and she works across the street and the highlight of that was a 405 trap bar deadlift for 9. It pissed me off because I knew I had 2-3 more in me but the damn plates fell off of one side.

Mind you, this is after a top set of 315x7 T-bar rows, a back off of 270x5 which was too heavy for a back off so I did another set of 225x8. This was during my first workout of the day, right after work. Needless to say, lats were fried.

Capped it off with some neutral grip chest supported rows for the lats and some Meadows rows for the upper back (which is still sore)

My leverages suck but I like deadlifting and after trying conventional and sumo, I found that all I can really do consistently without some kind of pain and/or form breakdown is trap/hex bar. High-handle is the most comfortable and being a recreational lifter at 40, I'll probably just stick with this indefinitely for general fitness and enjoyment. I do sets of 5 and 3. No high volume work. Max singles don't interest me much either.

Squat is higher priority for sure, IMO.

At my age (75) with arthritis and an inventory of old man injuries squats and deadlifts were no longer options and then I discovered the "Hex Bar". I don't have to lean forward. All I have to do is stay reasonably straight, bend my knees and stand up. I know they're not "real" deadlifts but they're close enough and they're something I can actually do without pain.

(I also know that 2X body weight isn't really anything to brag about but, at my age, "something" is better than nothing :-)

To answer the question I "deadlift" once or twice a week.

This last 2 or 3 weeks ive pulled multiple sets every single day...
Some speed work, some high @ singles, some in 'the hyp range' because i feel they fit better there.

Ive pulled a comp style conventional (without belt) once. And comp sumo (without belt) twice.
The rest have been variations that either address a weak point or that are just fun to do.

I can maintain my pulls just fine doing a close variation once every week so long as i have some skill work in there and ive not let my grip tank

Deads build sooo easy by not doing a specific variation..

    *short arms crew
    *long shin crew
    *knows how to brace crew
    FMH crew - Couch.

'pick a program from the stickies' = biggest cop out post.

This is what I do too. Singles, speed work and hyp. Do you do all that in the same session or give them their own day (high singles day, speed work day, hyp day)? Might experiment doing speed work as back offs after a high single

    Currently i walk in..
    Pick a variation.
    Pick a protocol.
    Do a bit.
That's the extent of my programming.

I have no quarms about mixing higher velocity work, heavy skill work and hyp work in one session at all though.

Im a huge fan imof doing a heavy benchmark single followed by a different variation for sets

'pick a program from the stickies' = biggest cop out post.

    That does sound fun

The work done after ramping to a top set just feels so much smoother. Might start doing speed work after the top set. Cheers
