Met him once, he was a shy person. I chatted with his wife a bit about strength training during breakfast at the oldtime strongman dinner in New Jersey many years ago.
Not only did we loose Dave but Slim the Hammerman who also was in the same cliché eg oldtime strongman dinner passed away this week. He was the last of the oldtime strongmen.

He was an inspiration to Arnold, lifted weights for 60 years. He was very old school, enjoyed the dingy dungeon gyms just like Dorian and Ronnie, but he was doing it long before they had any hair on their peaches. I could write an article about him but he wrote 3 books on lifting, think I'll ask for one of his books for Christmas. He also wrote a newsletter every month that I subscribed to, last one was written by his wife during the heart of Covid, I'll share it here, please do take a look. RIP Dave.

Hi, friends,
It's been awhile! We're doing fine, staying mostly locked down and safe here. Hope all is well with you too.
And now... I'm totally compelled to share another look at A Glimpse in the Rear View because it's such a fascinating look at things like Golden Era history:
https://www.otpbooks.com/dave-draper...b1105-34462725
It's a commentary about the Joe Weider years, which might surprise some of you:

And in an excerpt I put up recently, you'll also find a hilarious memory of an ordinary day:

Sure, I know I'm biased. But man, he's just a great writer. Pick one of those excerpt links above and see what I mean.
Will be backatcha when I have something new to say.

PS: We're putting the finishing touches on Dan John's new book, Attempts. We're ready to print; I'm working on the audiobook files now. If interested in an update when we launch in a couple of weeks, those will go out to our OTPbooks.com mailing list, which is here:

Not passing any judgment here but Dave's Wife is selling a bunch of his old magazines on eBay, signed before his death:
