Anyone ever deal with a knee meniscus tear?

Im 41 and have this dull achy pain on the inside of my left knee. Went to an ortho 2 weeks ago and did a MRI and he said its a small tear in the meniscus but not a full bucket handle/turnover tear

said its a quality of life thing and he can scope it if i need to. Ive read where surgery isnt always the best option but it hurts like hell and its waking me up at night.

    Any feedback is appreciated.

Tore acl, meniscus and mcl, total reconstruction.

Probably why my squats suck. 4o5x4 is my best …left leg atrophy with the surgery….

With a scope, it’s probably out patient and you’ll be back in action soon. Sometimes these things heal on their own.

I tore the meniscus in my right knee in a dirt bike accident when I was in my mid 20's. I lived with it for about 5 years, then had it fixed. It is better after surgery, but still not 100%. Over 20 yrs later now, I am still good, but won't be surprised if I end up needing to have that knee replaced in my 60's.

I had a torn meniscus and arthroscopic surgery with a great surgeon who works with pro athletes and sports teams. It’s a job to recover from, but no pain since. If you get surgery, be diligent about physical therapy. (I skimped on PT and still have slightly reduced range of motion in that knee.) I was eventually able to squat again until recently. (Not a meniscus problem now, but rather osteoarthritis on the patellar surface of the joint.)

At age 64, I've exceeded all my prior PRs. Not “over the hill” yet. :)

Try to do physical therapy before surgery. Surgery doesn't always help, especially with older folks. I have a coworker 47yr and she's had 4 surgeries and her knee is really bad still and she wears a brace. After her first surgery, her doctor told her she can go back to running, skiing etc like normal but it ended up being worse.

Do physical therapy and rehab as long as you can, that's my advice. I would try to avoid surgery if any way possible because you might get the same results just by doing therapy.

Like Cass said, avoid surgery (at all costs). I've had a couple of undiagnosed knee injuries from running and hatha yoga seats and these exercises have always solved the problem:

My wife tore hers years ago and has had recurring arthritis from it. They basically told her.... Try to deal with it or get your entire knee replaced.

So she's just dealing with it, with the occasional cortisone shot.

Yep... both knees along with torn cartilage and severe arthritis in my left knee. Had both scoped , stayed awake and watched the first one. Nurse ran in and was hysterical that the US was under attack... sept 11 2001. I watched the 2nd plane hit in recovery..... anyway if they offered to do my left knee right now, I would walk to the hospital if I had to. 100% i would do it again.

Mine is torn. Doc suggested surgery but I'd have to quit running altogether. I can't do that. I'll deal with the dull ache that doesn't always ache.

Was drunk and out partying one night many moons ago. things get pretty hazy but I woke up at some chicks house the next morning. When I got out of bed the next morning I had a bad pain in my knee. Went to the doc, did an mri and showed I had a torn miniscus.

Not sure what kind of acrobatics I got up to that night but it bothered me for most of the next 3-5 months.
