I've seen a lot of people on social media check into a hotel for one night by themselves in the same city they live in. What's the point of doing this? Why would you stay in a hotel if you're not travelling?

Do people just go to hotels by themselves for one night for no reason?

Considering doing this very soon. Our 3rd child is due next week and our next oldest is just 19 months old. Going to be hell for awhile. I'm thinking a hotel for just one night a few months from now (when my wife would be willing to leave our newborn with family for a night) is mandatory.
To answer OP, no that's not normal going solo. Sounds like people that have either had a very bad fight with their spouse/GF, or it's sex or drugs related.Light weight! Light weight baby!!!!

Booked a hotel 30 minutes away from me the night before one of the CPA exams. Didn't feel like driving that 30 minutes early in the morning. It was nice being close by and having peace and quiet to study (hotel was way quieter than my house where jets fly overhead for like 10 hours straight in the daytime lol).
Also not a hotel but booked a cabin at a state park like 5 minutes from my house. Just wanted a break by myself. It rained the whole time - no tv or anything kinda got boring but it's nice to step back and reflect on goals/what's important.

I wanted to go see Many Saints of Newark alone as I'm into Mafia movies, my wife all the sudden decided she is into them also and needs to go with me. I didn't go, I kinda wanted to just do something alone.
Maybe that's what they're doing OP.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

No but I used to rent rooms at the Red Roof Inn to bang sloots like once a month. The last time I went it was so filthy and sketchy I kinda regretted ever staying there for some poon. Stains all over the mattress, burn holes in the blankets, broken toilets, crackhead looking mofos hanging out in the parking lot, emaciated homeless women sitting outside the lobby smoking cigarettes, just all around depressing as hell. Dodged a bullet not getting bed bugs.

I used to go out to the Mississippi River and camp out. I’d make fires and drink beer and then sleep in my car. Discovered it once when I ghost stuck in the sand as the sun was setting. Miles to walk to find humans again so I was forced to make a fire and stay out there all night. Was very peaceful. Actually went back months later and tripped acid myself and camped out. Started doing it every weekend

I'm a South Sider, and had training at 0700hrs near Ohare Airport. The drive would have been like an hr in the morning from where I live.
So instead I got a Suite that was five minutes away.
Another time the power went out in my house, and I had no air conditioning, I slept at a hotel just to stay cool

That chain is going down in a hurry, used to be decent if not great.
Reserved 2 rooms for my Wife's Graduation, lobby was full of garlic/onion smoke, one room key could open any room, homeless people all over, room smelled and looked it was from like 1950. I stayed long enough to connect to their wifi and reserve a room at another hotel. Non refundable so lost a couple hundred but learned a lesson.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I know a lot of hardcore drug addicts that rely on parents money to get them hotel rooms so they can do drugs.
You are your thoughts. Life is perception, thoughts are perception, perception is reality ergo thoughts are reality, I think therefore I am.

I used to love red roof in when I was a kid. Lots of memories, and good ones, but I had almost the same exact experience the last time, all the way down to booking another hotel and losing that money.
I'll never forget, not many cars in the parking lot but it was almost booked. Dudes carried manual can openers in their jogger sweat pants. They would open up soups and eat it right out of the can. Only people who do that normally is people who have been in prison for a while.
