I speak to a few people who say they have "tried everything"
I then talk about cico and weighing and measuring their foods, at which point they say it sounds too inconvenient or difficult. Which means not only have they NOT tried everything, but they're also not willing to do one of the easiest and most basic things.

There is kind of a joke about germans that I found out was actually true. In America, you ask how people are and 99.999% of people will say “good” or “fine” like a reflex no matter how they are doing, and the person asking doesnt care, they are just asking because it’s what they are “supposed to do”. If you ask someone in Germany the same question they will usually tell you all their ailments, how their big left toe hurts, and 10 other things. Its like they actually mean what they are saying, something is Americans just aren’t prepared for.

The best response to this is “Well, I am” but in a less casual setting I wouldn’t offer anything less than “I’m fine” but “good” is too hilariously false. Always follow it up with an “and yourself?” to throw it right back at them while spicing up this stupid script with a dash of compassion. We’re all in hell already.

I used to work with a guy who liked to mess with people. He would ask people how they were doing and when they said the obligatory “good” or “ fine” he would get closer and his face would get serious and his voice would lower and he’d ask “no, how are you really doing?” It was interesting how some people would react, some people would laugh and some people would just freeze up.
