Everything I've read suggests it's a great option, especially for HIIT. The other one to consider is the Concept2 BikeErg, which would probably be my choice because it's a little more flexible, with adjustable resistance for more LISS-style training as well.

I have the BikeErg and it is excellent. The Echo is a great choice but not for LISS, the BikeErg does that fantastically and like any other Erg device, you can always do HIIT on it as well. I don't think the BikeErg gets enough love because it is the best home cardio option IMO. Priced well, built like a tank, and can do it all. Only con is it is loud because it's an Erg.

Agree with the posts above. I actually had the Echo Bike but ended up replacing it with the BikeErg. It’s nice to be able to hop on it and just ride at a steady pace without having to always go all out like on the Echo Bike. Plus it works great for HIIT as well. However the Echo Bike is a fantasic option if your more into a HIIT style of training only. The stimulus it provides is almost unmatchable. A 4 minute interval on the Echo can leave you feeling dead for a while. If I had the room I’d probably have kept both.

BikeErg is fantastic. Can zone out for an hour doing LISS while watching something on an iPad or tv but can also completely gas you on a set of intervals. The computer on the Erg has intervals built-in and you can also program your preferred series of intervals based on number of rounds, work time, interval time, distance, etc. It integrates with the Polar H10 chest strap and can send all of your data to an account in the cloud so you can track your history and performance.

Well worth the price. I have all 3 ergs, bike, row, and ski and they are all amazing. Provide a lot of variability when you want to focus on cardio and the machines are all lightweight, and maintenance free.

Yep. Two different beasts.. both awesome options. I have not found a better machine than the Echo bike for warming up the whole body quickly (well maybe a rower), and the HIIT is awesome (BRUTAL!) with it. I haven't had the pleasure of owning a BikeErg yet, but I've heard excellent things about it, but yeah I would imagine it is much better for lower intensity, long sessions.

The Echo bike is ridiculously well built.

That said, I am still planning on getting a bike erg when I get off my butt (there have been a couple near me but I haven't gotten around to going to get it - but I need to sell my another piece first

I have the echo bike. Can confirm it’s built like a tank. Can also confirm it’s brutal.

So these bike erg’s…. Are they spin bikes? If not what exactly is a spin bike?

They're not spin bikes, they're fan bikes just like the echo and airdynes, they just don't have moving handles, and the fan resistance is controllable by adjusting airflow adjusters.

Spin bikes spin a metal flywheel, and creates resistance with magnets that adjusts distance from the metal flywheel.

Echo Bike owner checking in. Prior to this, I owned an Assault Bike for 3 years and can't believe I didn't ditch it sooner. This bike is better in every conceivable category. The Assault Bike would rattle, creak shake when you really put the pedal to the metal, this one doesn't budge an inch. For those asking about noise, this bike is EXTREMELY quiet because it's belt driven whereas the Assault Bike is chain drive. Granted it's not as whisper quiet as say a Peloton but the Echo is very, very quiet. For $1350 you are getting a product that will likely outlive you and your family, it's literally BOMB PROOF and best of all, virtually no maintenance required. I will say this, if you're looking for a bike to pedal on for 20-30 minutes at a time, look elsewhere. You can do steady state cardio on this but where it realty shines is in quick burst ALL OUT effort intervals (think 20 seconds on/10 seconds off Tabata style intervals), you will never out pedal the fan and the bike ALWAYS wins. Rogue has legendary customer service and their products are incredibly well built. Best of all, if the bike isn't your thing, you can pretty much recoup most/if not all your price on the secondary market, their products hold their value incredibly well. If you have other questions about the bike, feel free to ask and I'd be happy to answer.

I always thought fan bikes tension was dependent on pedal speed and intensity (user controlled) whereas spin bikes were manually controlled (non human).

I figured the bike erg was a new category.

My wife doesn’t like the echo. She wants a spin bike so I wonder if the bike erg would be worth a try?

    In late.

I ride a Echo at my gym few times a week. Nice bike. I prefer air-dynex because It just fits me better and I think a little better build and power/effort curve (read higher top end effort). I use the Echo for 10/20 Tabata and the built in timer works great.
