Somewhat to my surprise, many of the regular posters here seem to train at home rather than at a gym. Many of you seem to have great setups at home with lots of equipment, while some appear to be doing what they can with more meagre means. Either way, it doesn't seem that public gyms are as popular here.
While I would love to have a great setup and it is a wish of mine someday, that's not feasible for me right now and I work out at a commercial gym.
Just thought I'd throw a poll out there for a show of hands, since my impression might be skewed.

I said both but it's actually neither right now. Gyms require proof of vaccination for covid right now. I may be required to vaccinate for work but I will not enroll in the vaccine passport system. I'm still waiting for my 45lb plates and bench to arrive.
Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

Before lockdowns.
Gym 100%of the time.
During lockdown.
Home 100% of the time.
Purchased some comp spec kit
Post lockdown.
70/30.
I do all my squat, bench, press, chin, rows, and my none floor based hinging stuff, and ez Bar work at home.
I do my no eccentric floor pulls, dumbell work and machine stuff in the gym/at work..
I split my cable stuff between home & gym depending what I'm doing. Often do stuff at home then walk 10m to work for my other stuff.
1session may be...
Bench at home
JM press at home
Deadlift in gym
Hi row machine In gym
Ham curl machine in gym
Or..
Squat at home
Belt squat at home
Inc row at home
DB bench in gym
Ghr in gym
DB arms in gym
I won't lie tho, I don't enjoy a full session the gym now.. Not now I manage the day to day stuff there now.. It's proper stacked with excellent kit and covers everything I dont have at home..
Its just less fun ****ting where you eat so to speak. Try not go be at work y when not workingLast edited by MyEgoProblem; 10-08-2021 at 07:48 AM.

With a family and a side hustle business, no travel time to spare. Get in the gym at 5 am, out before 6am.
Pros- my gym is always open, Covid didnt shut it down, holidays don’t shut it down, unreliable employees don’t shut it down…it’s never over crowded….it’s my dirt, my blood, my sweat…beverages, food, my music or tv….I can hog multiple stations and even curl in the squat rack without stink eyes….garage door can be opened for a great breeze…I fix stuff when it needs fixing…there is more iron than I need and weights are always reracked. The machines are ones I chose, fit for me…can wear my slippers or go shoeless and shirtless…it’s paid for…
Cons- lonely compared to real meathead gyms I used to go to, sometimes bride can find me there to unload her stressors and that’s not good ha ha….it’s a garage so sometimes people put junk in there and it clutters up my space…adjusting dbs….no ego lifting…maybe that’s a plus? Cold in winter…no AC in summer…."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. At the gym before the pandemic. Fell in love with bodyweight training and recently bought a pair of gymnastic rings which I currently use for almost all of my upper body training.
I also have a home gym in my basement with a lot of equipment that I bought over the years.
May still end up missing the gym at some point though...Last edited by EiFit91; 10-08-2021 at 09:54 AM.

I can't stand public gyms and that was pre-covid. I can't imagine how bad it is in USA where most people are jackasses.
But I always figured I can just spend the money on my gym pass on my own equipment instead, 10 years later I have quite a lot of stuff now and I can use it whenever I want and superset the **** out everything.

Home gym crew . Interestingly enough , I quit going to Golds because of constantly getting the flu.
Now I have people begging me to use mine , but I’m like that would be going backwards , and it’s not my fault you sold all your gear pre Covid lol.
Here’s mine OP . There’s much better here , but I’m limited to a chitty old house with a low ceiling
Just a FYI , anything that’s yellow is being changed to orange someday

...
I'd rather never drive a sports car and just skip to the basement full-gym setup that some of you have lol
There would be something to be missed with the comradery yeah, but I see all of that as a playground and would love to have a similar setup someday soonBench: 350
Squat: 405
Deadlift: 505

Back in 80s and 90s the gyms I both worked in and trained in were great places to make friends, find a good woman or even make a connection for jobs or roommates.
We would have large cookouts and play volleyball or wiffle ball all day and night. We’d organize ultimate frisbee or touch football games, beach volleyball….basketball…just always making friends and doing stuff. Back then I could not even imagine choosing a home gym.
Real life demands, kids, home to care for, new responsibilities….the physique begins to become lower on the priority list and training suffers….instead of two hours in the gym, it’s find thirty min to get it done at home without having to hire a babysitter."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. Yeah, out of med school/residency I bought a relatively cheap home, I'm still driving my 2011 Toyota Corolla with no intention of upgrading any time soon, but I did splurge a bit on the home gym, though that was partly due to the pandemic driving up the used equipment prices so much that I just went ahead and bought everything new. Still much cheaper than a new car, plus I don't have to spend money on gym fees and the time-saving aspect is worth a ton of money to me personally. I do miss the comradery at the gym though.

From the beginning it's always been an at home operation for me. The fanciest i've ever had it was with dumbbells, barbell, plates, a bench, stands, pullup and dip bars - but in the very beginning I didn't have weights or a bench so i'd fill bags with water, weigh on my scale and lift with those. Had a lead pipe with caps on the end to hold em. When I got lucky enough to get real weights I picked up some squat stands and a bench, but for awhile I was doing all my lifts from the ground and a lot of that I still actually do, and I think those moves actually force your body to work harder, so you end up with more gains cause of it. Even now, I still prefer to keep it as primitive as I can just with the bare necessities.

Here's my home gym. Also have an adjustable bench. Everything was free over the course of 5 years, including the mirror. Renters leave stuff behind all the time in my houses. I had to make the rack though, from some scrap metal.
My sports car is a '79 vette.

I was about to buy this and the salesman said don’t worry we have 19 in stock .
Phoned the next week and they were all gone . There back in stock now but it’s too late as I’ve allocated room there for my bars, so f**k em
I’ve yet to find a review on it
https://www.treadmillfactory.ca/elem...ess-hack-squat
Not a fan of rollers and prefer linear bearings , but it has the largest deck that I’ve seen for leg press . Srs a guy needs to build his own to do it right , unless there separate machines

Used to be gym 100%.
Then lockdowns happened so I went to parks to do calisthenics stuff.
Once we opened back up I brought a squat rack, barbell, dumbells and plates and haven't been back.
Sure I have less but not having to go out, not getting annoyed at a messy gym or people using benches for their bottles/phones etc. is great. Just play some UFC or YouTube and in between sets wander around the house doing odd jobs.

Completed the home gym yesterday.
No more upgrades until we move, then it's platform, ghr and chains.
Or you could pay a gym membership for years. Pay more and spend more while using lesser quality kit..
Or buy a home gym AND drive a sports car.
My setup cos £1500 give or take
Obviously I'm being semi facetious. I purchased my. Kit because I much prefer to lift and chill in my own time.
Worth far more than moneyFMH crew - Couch.
