heating up probiotics

was at the grocery store and saw a probiotic tea. i'm all good with believing in that if it were refrigerated but this was a hot tea. i should go back and take a pic or remember the brand. another one on that is a probiotic muffin cup you microwave. i think it was mighty muffin iirc.

do probiotics survive the heat? i always thought they needed to be refrigerated....and they didn't say "prebiotic fiber" on the label it was clearly probiotic. however, i never looked at the ingredients to look for strains, etc

i've always bought my probiotics in either capsules or fermented kraut.

I don't go out of my way to seek out probiotics so am not knowledgeable about the science behind it, but pretty sure things like miso soup and fermented soybean products have probiotics so the tea may be legit.

Also, I'd go with kimchi over fermented kraut personally.

I think it might depend on the probiotic and the preparation, but yeah, I think most require refrigeration to avoid killing off the bacteria..

Then again, that seems kind of weird given I always thought bacteria loved warm/moist environments…

I do know that cooking at high heat will damage/kill them tho

Outside of antibiotic-induced diarrhea, where the evidence is not very strong, I have not come across anything that has convinced me that taking probiotics accomplishes anything significant.

That said, some bacteria are thermophiles and will thrive in heat.

One of my regular weekly drug screen people died last week. They were clean for 18 months and then didn't have to take a weekly drug screen anymore. They lasted 2 months before they OD'd.

You're right, there is definitely an effect for AAD, stronger than I was alluding to:

Numbers would probably be more efficacious if only looking at optimal strains/dosages.

Yes, there are certain well known strains that have been more thoroughly tested. And a couple certain strains I believe are looking promising for certain IBDs. I’d have to look for those. one is E coli nissle, but i need to search the other research.

Outside of my window at work, fairly routinely there are wandering homeless people who are visibly mentally ill and point at and speak to hallucinations.

Whenever I encounter someone while working talking to themselves with no one else around i just like to see i do a wellness check to see if they’re cognizant of where they are. Used this method a thousand times.

Me: hey man you alright?
Them: yeah I’m fine
Me: how about your friend

They all give me the same smirk, makes me wonder if I’ve cured them, they do it for attention or they’re not as far off as they may seem.

In my experience, they're just vouching for the friend doing well also. Maybe this is heartless or whatever, but I don't care too much. Not concerned that they'd try something on me, and I know that I can't do anything to affect their vision of the world, so as long as they keep to themselves it doesn't end up affecting anything.
