Yeah I don’t know if he won any awards for that movie but he should have. Same with Gene Wilder. Another great movie by Mel Brooks. If you enjoy Blazing Saddles and Space Balls etc you will love it.

Oh and if you like Nightmare before Christmas, I suggest Corpse Bride. I kind of like that one better, don’t tell anyone. Edward Scissorhands is another Tim Burton classic.

Also kind of embarrassing to admit I enjoy The Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror movies also, kind of nostalgia I guess

Hocus Pocus 2 seems a fantasy family movie
    Dahmer seems a drama.
I consider Seven and Silence of the Lambs psychological thrillers.

    Some horrors I liked {or at least I remember I liked}:

1960 - Les yeux sans visage
    1963 - The birds
    1963 - The haunting
    1965 - Repulsion
    1976 - Island of death
    1976 - The Omen
    1978 - I spit on your grave
    1979 - The Amityville horror
    1990 - Misery
    1996 - Thesis
    1999 - Audition
    2000 - Battle royale
2001 - El espinazo del diablo
    2001 - Session 9
    2002 - Cabin fever
    2003 - Wrong turn
    2004 - Shutter
    2005 - Hostel
2006 - The hills have eyes
    2006 - Turistas
    2008 - Martyrs
    2008 - Pontypool
    2008 - The strangers
    2013 - Evil dead
    2014 - Creep
    2014 - Goodnight mommy
    2015 - The visit
    2016 - Train to Busan

Also, Funny Games from 1997 is pretty f***ed up, but still a thriller.

"Two violent young men take a mother, father, and son hostage in their vacation cabin and force them to play sadistic "games" with one another for their own amusement."

Not a big fan of horror, although one of my favorite movies is Sinister.

American horror story is a pretty sick tv show too.

I saw Barbarian, which just came out in theaters a few weeks ago. That one was pretty good.

Also I've seen five on your list. I don't like the sadistic killer/gorefest ones, but I do like the psychological/supernatural/folk/arthouse variety.

Same. That's why The Shining's the GOAT to me. I'd also put Shutter Island up there in 2nd place. That movie was fuking terrifying.

The Shining is like an entire league above all the others that I've seen in my opinion. Glad to see someone else appreciating it.

Never saw Shutter Island, but might give it a shot. Something about it just didn't look very interesting, but I would trust your endorsement.

Yeah Shining gave me nightmares as a child and still holds up today. Same with Alien. Just watched Alien a couple days ago because of this thread lol

I completely agree on The Shining. It's a standout in not just horror, but the history of film IMO.

& yea I totally get it with Shutter Island. I actually slightly-begrudgingly watched it at least 7 or 8 years after it was released, but I was absolutely mindblown by how good it was.

Event Horizon is a good combo of psychological thriller, sci-fi, gore and wtf.

I know it’s not what The Shining was going for, but I think Jack Nicholson is absolutely hilarious in it. His acting in it is so good, it cracks me up throughout the movie.

Well now I'll certainly give it a watch.

And speaking of mind-blowing, on The Shining, if you haven't seen it yet, the video I link in my OP is one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen on the internet, honestly; I admit that sounds kind of silly since it's just about a movie, but the extent and depth of cohesive patterns this guy unravels is unreal. It's seriously like on par with an actual dissertation, and I'm amazed he was even able to spot most of them, much less synthesize them in a compelling way. The man had to have spent years spotting and compiling all of that information.

Event horizon is good! It did feel like it was a mixture of genres. I think Lawrence Fishburne and Sam Neil were good leads for those roles.

Yeah, Nicholson's acting is kind of funny. It's like he's amusedly self-aware of his own descent into insanity, while somehow eliciting sympathy on the way down.

"I'm the kind of man that likes to know who's buying their drinks, Lloyd."

"That's not a matter that concerns you Mr. Torrence, at least, not at this point."

*persistent confusion, eventually dismissed by the pleasant realization that it's on the house.*

"Anything you say, Lloyd! Anything you say."

Edward Scissorhands was excellent. I hadn't seen the movie since I was a kid. I forgot it was a Tim Burton movie, but I can now see how he shaped his later movies from that movie. I also didn't realize the movie was filmed right outside of Tampa, FL - looks more out west to me.

I didn’t realize Rob Zombie was behind the new Munsters movie until I watched it with my nephew, it was cheesy and corny, but surprisingly entertaining if you watched the old show. Plus his wife is pretty hot playing Lily.

Tim Burton is a legend. Pee Wee’s big adventure was a masterpiece, as it was the brainchild of Tim Burton and Phil Hartman. Then he did Beteljuice which os a classic. Plus he is basically responsible for turning Batman from the bright, cheerful 60s show into the “dark” version when he did the late 80s Batman with the REAL Joker.

I saw Halloween Ends today at the theater. It was pretty good I'd say, plenty of action, good acting, a decent amount of blood.

Interesting to see the end of Michael Myers. Kind of sad in a way to see it all come to an end even though I wasn't really into all of the movies, but they had been coming out starting in 1978 I believe.
