Have you ever had a nutritional food crisis?

Was digging through my freezer yesterday and found some frozen cooked shrimp that expired in 2020. Thawed them out and cooked some bacon to accompany them. The horrible taste of the shrimp even made the bacon taste bad. I went with Plan B, Pizza Hut.

Today was digging through my freezer and found a package of pre-made hamburger patties. They expired 6/19. Cooked them on my grill. They had the consistency of burnt toast and the taste of cardboard. I went with Plan B, cooked some bacon and eggs.

    was she nice, tho?

but for real - sure - i used to live in mexico and was quite poor for a time - not enough for tortillas sometimes - sucked a56 - but i did always find favor in the locals hearts and would get invited for a meal when i couldn't put one together.

watched a show about the true origins of aspirin this evening and the nazi 'family' camp Terezín - horrific nutritional food crisis. why i usually speak up when n00bs question their starvation mode bs - most of us will never know true starvation.

for real tho - don't die on us dude - toss the old food if it doesn't pass the sniff test!

I had an egg crisis yesterday morning. The last 3 eggs were stuck in the styrofoam container. If I was too forceful they would break. I ended up cracking them open upside down to make my Vince Gironda hormone precursor shake.

expirations and frozen foods are always hit ir miss. Sometimes things say “use or freeze by date”. So in theory you can freeze them before that date and they are good for ???. Only if they get thawed and refrozen do they need to be thrown out. I think the trick is to keep them at a certain temp frozen, but most home freezers cycle high and low and food only lasts a few months like that. I grew up poor and have had to resort to various things over the years. could probably write a book about it lol.

I've had chicken in the freezer for so long that the meat dried and cracked. At least it saved me the effort of trying to salvage them.

I had a fresh water barracuda in my aquarium that jumped out and died on the carpet. I put it in a plastic bag and kept it in my freezer a few years. It basically freeze dried. Whenever someone visited me I would ask them if they would like to see my fresh water barracuda. I would pull it out of the freezer and show them.

I had a saltwater moray eel that jumped out of my tank one night. I found him on the carpet behind the tank, all dry and shriveled up looking. I grabbed some toilet paper and used it to pick him up to flush him. As I stood up he began to squirm, and it freaked me out and i threw him into the tank. He swam down to his favorite rock and went back to his usual spot. Apparently they can breathe air as well.

Chickens poop a lot, everywhere. Let them out and they poop on your tables. Lock them up and they live in poop and you clean it. But they actually like cages so no hawks can get them. The cage needs to be big enough for them to stand up and walk around a bit, and get a dust bath once in a while. Still lots of work. They also love eating insects.

A friend of mine had a goldfish which jumped out the tank onto a nearby dish or tray (something like that). He found it in the morning dried out and its fins stuck to the tray. He scraped it off the tray with a spatula and put it back in the tank, and it "came back to life" and lived for years afterwards.

I have never understood why so many are content to be rude to people who are serving you something you're about to ingest... Usually it's Boomers who think their status as a customer is something sacred.

Yep I learned at a young age “don’t piss off the waiter”. Out at lunch with a coworker one day he was rude to the waiter. I told him I’m not eating there now. He asked why not. I told him a few actual stories I know personally from people working in food services. He couldn’t believe it, his face was literally shocked. Like he actually had no idea what people are capable of when you piss them off. least of all people making minimum wage behind some closed walls.

If I'm out at a restaurant with someone and they're rude to the staff, I try personally to make them feel appreciated so there's not collateral damage lol, and because they're probably legitimately stressed anyway and don't deserve the flak to begin with.

We once did that Hawaiian pig thing, where you dig a hole in the ground, line it with rocks, start a fire; then prep a whole pig and toss it in the fire and bury it overnight. Some guy borrowed my dumptruck and stopped by the county maintenance yard. He picked up about 500 pounds of grapefruit size rocks by hand from their stockpile. When we dug the pig up the next day for my Superbowl party it was underdone. So we lined a table with foil, cut the pig up into smaller pieces and finished it on a conventional gas grill. The crisis was averted.

As Han Solo says, I can imagine quite a bit . Some kids where i live got busted for doing stuff to fast food at work, one of them confessed to all the stuff they did. One thing I remember is that one of them threw a burger patty up into the raised ceiling tiles. Then a few days later he pulled it back out of the ceiling and served it to a customer. The one kid said the patty was all green before they cooked it.

point taken - some of you - espec those with misc experience - CAN indeed imagine...and the servers weren't nearly as twisted as the cooks - cooks were always coming up with horrendous ways to make the a56holes suffer

One time I was pinch bartending for a dart league in a bar. I knew one guy was stoned (because I party with him when I'm not working) and was riding a crotch rocket. He orders a Crown and 7 at noon on a Sunday. I gave him a 7 with a splash of Coke. He had 2 or 3 and I asked him how they were. He said fine. Then I busted him and said what it really was. I gave him the next 2 or 3 for free with the real ingredients.

Another time I was in a bar with the guy and he kept on talking about this hot girl at the other end of the bar that kept staring at him. This hot girl was a life sized cardboard cutout promotional thing.

I used to install car stereos back when most cars didn’t come with stereos. A guy I worked with, if a customer pissed him off, he would wire the speakers out of phase. Everything worked, and to the untrained ear sounded “ok”. but what happens is one speaker is pushing and the other speaker is pulling. As you turn up the volume what kind of happens is it feels like when you are driving in the mountains and your ears are about to pop from the altitude change, only with the speakers out of phase this only happens with 1 ear, lol. So it basically gives you this uncomfortable feeling you can’t quite put your finger on.
