    Shout-out to SuffolkPunch

So during my lower body workout today, after my elbow flexor work and calf work, I decided to break out the SSB and squat with it.
Now, my previous max a few months ago was 375, but I tore the sh!t out of my left adductor. This time, before I squatted, I hit the good girl/bad girl machines…

In the previous 2 months, I took your advice you’ve given in this forum since I been a member and added the hip adduction/abduction machines to my lower body training. I do them every lower session before my main work.

This time around, I hit 375 and it was a world of difference. No straining of the adductors, and I felt strong in the hole. I paused there for a 2 count, and shot right up and my usual sticking point barely gave me an issue this time. It was like squatting 3 plates srs.

I honestly felt I could of hit that 2 more times, or 4 plates for 1, but with no spotter I decided not to chance it since I still had the rest of my lower body training to do.

Then later on I did goblet squats, a top set of 110x7, scraping my ass on the floor basically each rep.

Just wanted to say thanks for making me view those previously unassuming machines as a valuable training tool.

Wish I would take my own advice - I tweaked my hip the other day in unbelted back squat and no coincidence at all - I had been neglecting my injury prevention exercises...

But since you're already lean and deliberately bulking, I wouldn't call it that

    Lol

It’s so damn hard to contain myself on a bulk. I said to Eli in another thread a while ago that lean bulking is like trying to watch porn without masturbating...

What is your surplus currently and how much weight have you gained?

In the context of this conversation, I don't seem to gain any fat visibly unless I drink... You could probably go ham with wholesome meat (unlike most hams, I guess) with minimal consequences.

I am aiming for about 200 calorie surplus. Last week I think I turned it into a 400 calorie surplus.

Weight is about 184 lbs so I have gained 10 pounds since April. I tossed in two mini-cuts along the way to keep fat gain in check but it’s tiring to keep doing that so I may end up just bulking without breaks until I stall...

Are you gaining much fat, visibly? 200 is pretty slight IMO. South of like 500 I wouldn't even worry, but I am guilty of overdoing it and being careless, myself.

I have gained about 0.5 inches on my waist. There is a bit less definition in front, whereas my back if anything looks leaner. That’s just how I store fat, it all goes straight in front...

Just paranoid about fat gain given my past history tbh

For a 10 pound gain, that's great (especially if you do tend to store it all there, anyway).

I won't offer advice about being lean since I'm still pudgy even if I have decent size and strength. Personally I'd hasten getting above 200, since I think at your height that's doable. I'd take advantage of prime of life years to put on size and strength, since that obviously only works in your favor for so long.

No lean bulking for me. I just eat plenty food and push my training. Don't even track my intake. I find cutting easy so I'm not bothered about some extra fat

There is no such thing as a “lean bulk” or even a “clean bulk”. Just lol @ whoever coined that term first.

I won't offer advice about being lean since I'm still pudgy even if I have decent size and strength. Personally I'd hasten getting above 200, since I think at your height that's doable. I'd take advantage of prime of life years to put on size and strength, since that obviously only works in your favor for so long.
If I went by my natural appetite I would get to 200 and beyond in no time lol.

But I am tempted to keep bulking until I stop progressing strength wise and probably will!

    Maybe not precisely defined.

I think of lean vs dirty bulk as a spectrum where one extreme is only gaining muscle and 0 fat, and the other is gaining all fat and 0 muscle. So I define «lean» vs «dirty» in terms of the end result. If you can eat 500 calories above maintenance and gain only muscle I’d call that lean bulking. But in most cases the size of the surplus will probably be negatively related to the muscle:fat ratio.

Whereas the common use of the terms refers to the size of the surplus I guess? I would agree with you if you take odds with that as any surplus (even a small one) could potentially lead to excess fat gain.

Think he's referring to the quality of results.

If you have a lot of fat yourself laughter at the term is kind of unfounded.
