They’re not Africans. They’re Haitians who are escaping their country for economic reasons. Unfortunately for them economic reasons are not a valid qualification for asylum. Most have been living in Mexico for two years or more, some come from Brazil, Chile and Panama where they have been since the 2010 earthquake. They surged the border because Biden ordered a pause in deportations after the recent earthquake and the assassination of Haiti's president. But now because of their own doing, it looks like the deportations are ramping up again. And no they weren’t being whipped, and yes Maxine Waters is the personification of what is wrong with American politics.

The latest installment in America’s culture war is a video of Haitian immigrants and U.S. border agents on horseback. So, either LWW is just forcing this into whatever thread he happens to be posting in at the time or he really believes in order to have an opinion on diversity in our communities you need to live near horses. I know nothing about horses but from what I understand what the border agents were doing was some sort of herding technique used on cattle with split reigns(?). To me it looked like standard mounted crowd control from agents who are massively outnumbered in a chaotic situation. Thats what the horses are for. They're not pets, they're more akin to police dogs.

Let’s try this. I do agree with you that this situation is a mess but the real problem is that we've cheapened asylum and it's enforced differently based on what judge you happen to get in front of. Asylum is for political refugees. For example, an Afghan interpreter for the US military would be targeted by the Taliban and thus should qualify for asylum.

Asylum claims for countries like Guatemala and El Salvador have overwhelmed the system. Many of these claim the individual is a victim of domestic violence or gang violence and use that to claim asylum. Some judges routinely grant asylum to these immigrants. Some only do it sometimes. And other judges have denied every one of these claims to come into their courtroom. It's quite literally sheer luck based on what judge you are assigned (and that has nothing to do with where you cross the border).

While I don't necessarily think there shouldn't be a mechanism for these individuals to remain here legally, asylum isn't the answer. We need new legislation. The asylum system is in place for those like Afghan interpreters or a Belarusian dissident.

Asylum shouldn't be granted because local officials don't prosecute domestic violence, just as it shouldn't be granted to a Haitian that has noting to go back to. That isn't what asylum is for, because these people are not political refugees. They are not being persecuted by the group in power.

This is a fairly rational opinion ( in my view) and one you likely won’t see much of on the 24 hour news channels so why not step out of that bubble now and then and discuss with some folks on this board with different beliefs instead of constantly shouting about how nuts the far left is?
