    Starting strength power rack.

So I’m totally happy with my 26 year old parabody rack. I weigh it down with sandbags to keep it from sliding around.

Several times I’ve almost bought a new rack just because. My “forever” rack.

Sadly I missed the opportunity to buy a rack built by the nice guy from Montreal.

Crepinsek made a nice 2 x 2 rack but it seems he is no longer around?

Anyway, I’m in Canada and still somewhat restricted due to covid, and I’ve some extra cash literally, burning a hole in the bank account. Looking at racks again.

Tell me I’m crazy but I’m digging the SS rack. Ya, it’s an old design, and grossly over priced. And I suppose limited in function (not really for me ).

I’ve no need for attachments. Big basic, lifts, and Ive a pulldown machine if needed.

I like that it’s bare steel. All my bars are bare steel. It’s tough, and old school.

Big old bolts for hooks, and safeties that look like you can park a truck on them.

Maybe I’m old, and just like old things.

There is no,perfect rack. They either are too big (3 x 3), or too narrow. (41” is unacceptable for me).

    My perfect rack would be a rep5000 made of 2 x 2 or 2 x 3. 44” wide (inside)

SS rack would work for me but no storage.

Thoughts on the SS rack? Yes, no? Old school for an old dude?

    Or get my marbles checked?

There's a similar one for sale here. Not sure if they'll honor the free shipping outside of US though, I doubt it.

I'd get the NL crossbox 2x3 rack. My own rack is 2x3 and I love it.

I don't know if this is allowed, but here is 23 pages of people arguing against this style rack:

    exodus-strength.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=631&sid=f61a365cae98b0a3ec758 95b1ae2fbc3&start=400

Granted they left the starting strength forums due to differences, so they are a little biased.
    But some good points made.

If you have a US shipping address, I would just get a Rogue rack TBH. If you don't like it, the resale value is going to be very high. They ship to Canada too but the pricing is higher from what I understand.

Hey now, I argued in that thread for this style of rack as a cool history piece and/or a second rack. You know, when it's an actual vintage unit, not the modern overpriced strength hipster replica.

I just found that reading through that thread posted earlier. It's crazy how TSS offers powder coated, modern racks for less than that raw steel rack with bolts for j-cups.

The rack is actually everything I need. I do the basic lifts. Don’t need attachments. And honestly it just looks “tough” to me.

I just can’t get past the price. At the very least it should cost the same, shipping included as the rogue r3. They are basically the same except the rogue has added ability for attachments.

I’d honestly have to try a wooden bench first before purchase. Supposedly you have to try it to believe it.

I’m happy with my elite fts bench with the gripper pad. One my best purchases.

I think the fact it vibrates, squeals, and resonates like a tsunami bar if you look at it wrong is a pretty good argument against any consideration beyond the retro-cool aspect

It is, the narrowness necessitates it. The issue is the c channel posts instead of squared tubing.

In the thread posted earlier, someone redesigned it with 45 degree gussets and boxed frame to fix the vibrating issue.

To be fair, my current rack squeals much the same when loaded. 3 plates and up it shakes as much as the rip rack.

The,squeal,is from the saber type safeties.

You can disagree all you want, but put a little torsion on a failed heavy lift and that cage won't hold up.

Even if it does hold up, I'd be more worried about trying to re-rack a heavily loaded bar onto the bolt j-cups with what a 1/4" bolt head lip, connected to a post that's vibrating.

I'm having trouble finding it again, I read through that whole thread posted, and there was a video with someone doing significantly less weight on OHP, but the rack vibrated even more.

I have no idea what that means. But, these things have been in use for decades. No issues.

J-cups have significant more "lip" than a 1" bolt, which probably has a 1/4" lip". J-cups on a square tubing doesn't vibrate.

Watch that video, guy probably had to slam the bar against the posts because of the posts vibrating.

Rogue sells a ton of racks and no doubt has a much more efficient manufacturing process and lower materials cost, which allows them to price things more competitively. The Starting Strength rack is far less popular, with good reason, so it has to be priced a lot higher to turn a profit. The SS racks also have to have a high retail price so they can be substantially discounted for the SS gym owners that are required to buy them. There are some idiot SS devotees in the public that will buy them but that number is tiny compared to Rogue fans.

Meh. Like I said, I’d have to try it.

In my travels if I can, I like to book time with an SSC, or BBM etc. always nice to have a new set of eyes for my lifts.

WFAC is on the list if I happen to go there.

I’ll try the wood bench. I either like it or I don’t right?

As I said, perfectly happy with my bench, and honestly if I was buying one right now I wood not (see what I did there) buy a wood bench, just because ya know it’s wood.

Rip is either on to something or he’s losing his mind.
