Is it safe to start any Protein supplements?

    Location: Toronto/Canada
To give some background, I am 45 yrs old with a very normal physique but can say I look fit considering my age. Biggest challenge is that I am not eating enough to increase mass and especially a vegetarian but trying to eat chicken once in a month. Do you guys recommend any safe Protein supplement these days as i also hear some horrific reviews/stories about taking such supplements with side effects? Surely I do not want any muscle mass at the cost of my health/side effects if any.
    Looking for your suggestions/tips please.
Please share also (if possible) how you guys manage your diet all day.

In summary, I guess I am giving workout/training more importance than dieting & hence I somewhere believe I am not gaining mass.

    thanks in advance

Whey is better than most meat substitute products…

Idk this seems silly. It’s protein, not drugs

Wrong forum. But at 45 I'd get your hormone levels checked before you go right to "I'm not eating enough to increase mass".

The protein you get from eating chicken once a month isn't enough of a benefit over which to lose your vegetarian card.

figure out your tdee, eat in a surplus, check hormones - all of that down below is correct - with all the s41t going on in the world, protein might be the least scary out there?!?! (you know what stickies are? the ones you need for aforementioned knowledge are in nutrition forum)

So you're trying to stop being a vegetarian? I don't get the chicken thing. Bacon tastes better so I'd start with that. Work your way up to steak and then see if you need or want a protein supplement.

Protein powder may upset your stomach, but I don’t know what you’re afraid of otherwise.

Unless you take special vitamins, eating chicken for a month or three isn’t going to do anything significant. But you’re wary of protein powder, so just stick with your veggie diet and optimize it.
