Come to Coffeyville Kansas. You can have a diet of all the free fresh venison you can shoot plus anything else you want to eat. I've got a furnished house you can stay in.

I’m the same way actually. I’d like to see a legitimate, long-term study on the effects of varying levels of SFAs on testosterone levels compared to other high fat diets. I’m also curious as to whether the source of said Sat. Fats matters. Would egg yolks have the same effect as say butter or full fat dairy?

I agree, would be a very interesting study.

    Maybe you’ll find this interesting:

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/scienc...60076021000716

The low fat diets included in the review were consistently lower in MUFAs and SFAs and the authors suggest that these may both have a beneficial effect on test levels, or that too much PUFAs have a negative effect. Matches my experience tbh if we go by libido/mood.

I’ll find the link later in tonight to a men’s health article where one writer in his 30s went from late 300’s to over 800 in 3 months. Got some news for you guys and don’t get scared!

His breakfast every day for the duration was bacon and eggs and he had a red meat for lunch every weekday (in addition to his giant salad).

He also got leaner and stronger but yes he was exercising. He also does an 8 year update years later.

Go to ultalabs, look for a total and free testosterone test. Also search for a 20 percent coupon on there (if you cant find one PM me) I never pay over 40 bucks for a blood draw and I’ve done a dozen in the last 16 months.

I’ll do it if you can convince me that increasing test levels within the natty range actually has an important effect on muscle building!

I honestly think that at this point I can «feel» how diet choices affect my mood/drive/performance - sounds stupid maybe but I think Strawng has said something similar before?

Not sure how often I could do lab-results (and I faint whenever I'm stuck with a needle and apparently it's hard to bring me back, can't help it), but I'd legitimately try an experiment like this for at least a couple of months. Wouldn't do it before January though.

Even though it's not necessary to achieve a good physique or maintain good health, it certainly helps the former and I'm not convinced it's especially dangerous regarding the latter, all the more so if your bloodwork ends up coming back fine after subsisting on it for a while.

So, if someone wants to delivery me meat I'm certainly game (lol), but otherwise I'd volunteer to do a less formal study on my own and self-report. I'd get bloodwork done at least once, at the end, but not sure if I'd do it more frequently because it makes me sick every time.

    Doesn’t sound stupid at all.

And I’m not the guy to convince you…if someone believes having levels in the low normal range vs the high normal range works best for them so be it. Me personally, I’d rather be in the optimal to reap the health and performance benefits. If you wanna talk about the mental and psychological benefits that’s an even bigger benefit.

The list goes on. Like comparing a fine tuned Porsche cup engine to an entry level volkswagen 4 banger.

I’ve been doing mine every 4 and 8 weeks respectively but I have specific reasons I’m monitoring on that type of schedule.

No, there's nothing special about red meat. But there are some benefits to eating it in moderation (too many people cut it out of their diet..)

    1. When I'm cutting, I tend to eat more red meat as the fat in it is satiating.
    2. The saturated fat and cholesterol boosts testosterone levels.
    3. Whether, I'm cutting, maintaining, or bulking, the extra fat helps keeps my blood sugar levels in check.
    4. Beef is cheaper around here than many other protein sources.

How much is a ribeye per pound? Last week they were $22.99 at my grocery store. Packages of 3 steaks were $60. I went yesterday and all the packages were gone.

Instead there were a whole bunch of single steak packages for about $20. The butcher just repackaged them into single portions.

Ribeyes are $14.99/pound here in family packs.

I buy leaner cuts of meat when they are inexpensive; sirloins and round steaks. I picked up a package of sirloins for $5.99/pound at the store on Saturday. Chicken breasts are running $6.99/pound. Most of my protein is turkey though; people don't buy ground turkey or turkey cutlets much around here and they're always on sale at some point. 93/7 ground turkey was $2.99/pound at a grocery store chain here last month.

Very recent study, perhaps relevant to the thread.

    https://academic.oup.com/jn/article/151/5/1190/6165015

«Anabolic efficiency (net protein balance/caloric intake) was greater in the beef group than all the other groups (P < 0.05). The egg, pork loin, and tofu groups were greater for anabolic efficiency than the kidney bean, peanut butter, and mixed-nuts groups (P < 0.05). The kidney bean group was greater than the peanut butter and mixed-nuts groups (P < 0.05)»

But this is probably not important as long as the overall protein intake is sufficient?

Thanks for sharing. It seems important as the article states:

The improvement in whole-body net protein balance was due to an increase in protein synthesis (P < 0.05) with all the animal protein sources, whereas the egg and pork groups also suppressed protein breakdown compared with the plant protein sources (P < 0.01).

What I meant is that it may not matter that much for actual muscle building. Suppose two groups of lifters each consistently eat 1 gram protein/lb bodyweight and one of the groups rely way more on beef than the other group. Do we think the meat group will gain more muscle when the overall protein intake is already (more than) optimal in both groups?

Based on that article I would think that the meat group would gain more muscle.

Right, 1gm is more than required anyways. So its kind of like what will fill a 7 oz glass more: 10 ounces of water, or 12 ounces of water?

That's a good point. Maybe it's more a matter of differing amounts of protein requirements based on the type of protein being consumed.
