Ashwgandha (KSM 66) was a lot stronger for me but IMO Lemon Balm > all strictly for anxiety and stress as long as there are no serious underlying medical issues

Frankly, not a lot of Magnesium salts enter the brain. So if you want something that works well and fast, Ashwaganda is certainly the more effective of these two. Which doesn't mean that Mg is useless. It would take longer to build up; In the long run it could complement the Ashawaganda.

Other herbs that have clinically proven effects on anxiety / restlessness:
    1. Lavender
    2. Valerian root

Lastly, ad especially if you need something to help you calm down in the evening and improve sleep, L-Glycine is a very smart (and harmless) addition. Glycine and mgnesium play very nicely together, by the way.

Lat but not least: Cut down on the BCAAs (if you are taking them) and cut down on Whey protein (if you are taking it), whey has quite a large protprtion of BCAAs and these may displace other neurotransmitter precursors (l-tyrosine for example) from uptake across blood brain barrier.
Quite a few people complained about exacerbation of anxiety when taking too much of whey/BCAAs. Important note: Neither BCAAs nor Whey do cause anxiety per se. However, in people with a predisposition or already latent anxiety disorder, they can be the "straw that broke the camel's back".
