    Should I get a Cardio Training/Punching bag?

    Location: Toronto/Canada
I can classify myself as intermediate for home gym workouts. Have a basic squat rack/bench press, functional trainer machine, barbells, etc. but no treadmill or bike.
I don't think I need to do aggressive cardio but only to basic level.
Any one recommends to buy like attached punching bag? (FYI, i am definitely not into boxing) Is it worth adding to my home gym?

For that amount of money I would buy a junk mountain bike from Walmart and ride it into the ground.

Punching bags are boring as hell after the novelty wears off.

For the money I would keep an eye out for an old Airdyne.

If you have the space, jumping rope is great cardio and will kick your ass. A good quality rope is >$30

And a poor-quality rope is available at Home Depot in the rope section at a much lower per-foot price.

If you aren't into boxing, I wouldn't invest in a punching bag for cardio until you try it out at a gym and make sure you're all in on it. Going for a mile run is free.

That's a key point. Just throwing random punches at a bag is boring and redundant. If you've boxed or taken boxing lessons it is really enjoyable and a hell of a work out.

I've had one for a long time, I use it very sparingly nowadays. The reason is, it's just too much wear and tear on my wrists. You really need to wrap your hands before gloving, and use good gloves laced up properly, to minimize wear/tear/injuries. Not easy to do by yourself.

I've hit a bag for years. I wrap, wear gloves and as long as I refrain from throwing more than a few hard punches do not suffer injury. If I do hit hard my arthritic right elbow will let me know it. As for boredom you can vary your punches, count up count down, etc. to relieve it. In retirement I've worked part time as an artists model for a dozen years. Try holding a pose for an hour; I suppose I handle boredom quite well. I would say a round timer (downloaded on to my phone) helps.

As for the bag shown I've never a bag on a stand. Can't imagine that base isn't in the way; get a hanging bag if you have a place high enough to hang it. You don't need to go heavy. I use a hundred pound bag and think that for cardio and light punches a sixty pound bag would be sufficient. Get a used bag off of Craigs List, gloves too. Buy the stretchy wraps.

All good advice. For wraps, go online to make sure you're wrapping properly.
