When Deadlifting how to avoid possibly fainting when doing max lifts ?

I've never done it myself but I have on may occasions in the best been very light headed and after watching some horror videos on youtube got me interested to find out what causes this and how to avoid it.

I noticed when I deadlift I tend to breath in before the lift and hold my breath until i've got the weight up to my hips once there I will slowly exhale and i'm guessing this is bad technique.

I'm only asking this as I haven't deadlifted in over a year and I'm wanting to get back into it and do it correct this time...

So i'm going to buy a belt and straps as I used to lift without either and used alternative grip... weak arm palm facing inwards and strong arm with palm facing away felt the most natural to me strangely.

Any advice would be great thanks.

It's only happened to me once, while grinding out a 3rd attempt at a meet. If you're that worried about it, get yourself a mouthguard to bite down on while you're pulling. It will help improve airflow and make it less likely that you will pass out.

You should brace into your belt and hold your air until you have completed the lift, then let it out once you put the weight down.

    Good advice from Drew.
You can use nose torc (ammonium) right before the lift too.... but frankly if it happens, it happens. Please have a spotter!

If you're not about passing out you're not pulling hard enough. Lol

Well I've tried lots of things to fix the issue
    Different breathing techniques
    Even tried histamine blockers
Nothing seems to work when I get the dizziness
Better sleep is about the only thing I think that helps.

    It's all blood pressure.

When attempting to recruit the amonut of tissue required to lift something at the upper limit of your strength, while simultaneously bracing (belly breath).

    Blood pressure shoots up!

Then very quickly releasing that breath as well as the strain on the body.

    Blood pressure drops!

Ps... Wait until you go through a real grinder and get a case of Petechiae. Lol

"Petechiae are formed when tiny blood vessels called capillaries break open. When these blood vessels break, blood leaks into your skin."
