I suspect the same and would love to see more about why this occurs. I'd also like to know whether even people like you or me would go to the other end of the spectrum were we to severely limit our calories. I'd imagine we would. I'd also like to see this researched in anorexia, because Ik myself and other former anorexics tend to get energized (at least initially...down the line is a different story entirely) from restricting.Originally Posted by AdamWW

Couple of more thoughts on this topic:
- a lot of the data is coming from cardio exercise, there isn't much long term data on resistance exercise.
- energy demands of MPS can be relatively high and last rather long, especially in beginners. This may counteract compensation effects on TDEE.
- compensations effects of resistance exercise may depend on many factors; energy intake, training volume, training level (beginner/advanced), personal factors etc. etc.
Side note, one of the researchers on the study Layne reviews is... Herman Pontzer.
