Eating to little Calories? I feel sick and have poor Appetite.

I have been in a really bad mental fog the past year and have really bad sleep schedule and have not been eating proper for a while.

I feel alot of mucle ache, feel tired and dont have good appetite.

I am afraid im seriously sick or something.

Could it just be that im not eating enough and could have a vitamin deficiency?

I dont really feel alot pf pain, but i got muscle ache and feel really sluggish and tired

[1] Go see a medical Doc.

[2] Try eating more calorie dense foods that taste good to you.

[3] Maybe you have an eating disorder, maybe talk to a family counselor about it (ask the Doc about this).

That, and you lose sensitivity to and efficacy of your hunger hormones. When I was deep into my anorexia and early on in my recovery, my hunger was functionally 0. My stomach was also incapable of handling food. I thought I was just "sick". I had no idea it was because I wasn't eating enough. I only stopped eating much because I wasn't hungry due to extreme stress. You might be experiencing effects of disordered eating or restriction, OP.

    My experience as well.

Humans evolved to 'turn off' hunger hormone production/pains if food was too scarce; it's a last-ditch effort to reduce BMI/energy expense which would kill people faster.

It can be pulsatile as well; you might feel zero hunger all day, but have a transient elevation in hunger (extreme hunger as well) telling you to feast, only to have it disappear moments later.

Dude, it's crazy now when I see things about "controlling appetite" or anything, because I always just think about what a horribly dark Hellhole it is to not know whether you're hungry or full. I swear that not being able to sense when I was hungry fuked with my ability to feel or regulate my emotions at all, which is probably part of the reason people get "addicted" to restriction in the first place. If you're literally starving to death and you can't even sense how hungry or full your stomach is, it's essentially impossible to sense very many emotions. What also sucks is you just secretly wanna eat so bad that all you can think about is food. Back then, I watched a bunch of "what I eat in a day" videos & epicmealtime nonsense. That stuff bores me to fuking tears now...& kinda grosses me out. I srsly think people should learn to embrace the feeling of being hungry or full if they're even remotely normal. Still, I get it..."ya don't know a good thing til it's gone" & whatnot.

I'll also never forget that feeling of being so damn hungry I could eat an all-out Eriktheelectric-style binge, only to feel like I'm gonna puke after a few spoonfuls of ice cream. That, or when I was suddenly able to eat 5k+ calories day in and day out whilst still feeling hungry and even losing weight at times. It's amazing what the body does when it's deprived of something it needs.

The concept of controlling appetite is certainly in and of itself a modern-day concept and one that I think only has merit if you're dealing with a lifestyle wherein overconsumption has because the norm. However, it seems to me that such a state of living could only be achieved in the presence of VERY low activity, a propensity to only rely on heavily-processed foods, or some level of social conditioning that demonizes certain foods and/or restricts them heavily (including anorexia).

I will admit, if all I ate was trail mix, granola, whole milk, peanut butter, ice cream, and fried stuff from a fast food place while ALSO having zero activities that require me to 'feel good' or perform physically, I could see gaining weight more easily and thus having a desire to 'control my appetite'. But as soon as you establish healthy lifestyle habits, the ability to thrive in those activities relies on at least a reasonable consumption of wholesome foods... those wholesome foods modulate appetite VERY well in and of themselves, and the activity does so even more in many cases. So in the end, you have this dual-factor means of not CONTROLLING appetite, but maintaining a healthy appetite such that you don't need to worry so much about these 'hacks' or 'tricks'.

Like you said, when you are actually in relative starvation with anorexia, ALL life becomes consumed by food thoughts. This was shown universally in that Minnesota Starvation Experiment wherein you had these guys who started reading cook books, watching cooking shows, all while abandoning old hobbies because ALL they cared about was food.

I did the same thing... I would watch the calorie challenges, the EPIC 'cheat days'... I never enjoyed the MASSIVE challenges like Erik does so much simply because it was too flamboyant and cringy in the execution, but the 10k+ calorie challenges, the food vlogs... it was all I ever wanted to watch.

But once I started to actually eat like that in recovery, over time I realized how disgusting I felt basically binging on huge amounts of processed 'junk', and the novelty wore off.

Mind you, I still ended up eating like 5-6k a day for a while after that, but I eventually moved to more of the peanut butter, cereal, loaded oatmeal bowls stuff, so I didn't feel as physically torn apart by it.

Over time, I just started to wake up not hungry anymore.... and to this day, I don't really get hungry until about 2 hours or more after waking up... unless of course I sleep in.

Hunger now to me is just not a huge deal... although I do to this day seem to have eyes bigger than my stomach: I'll almost ALWAYS overshoot how much I can eat in a sitting without getting a little over-full... but it's also not a big deal because I don't really mind over-eating a little bit on oatmeal, sushi, sandwiches, yogurt, fruit...

If you're healthy and in fatloss mode you need to EMBRACE hunger to some extent. It means you're winning the argument with your body\brain.

Body\Brain: I want food goddammit I don't wanna break into my fat storage.

You: You'll get fed when I say you get fed so shut the hell up.

Body\Brain: Why are you being so mean??.....
If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough
