Ben & Jerrys is decent ice cream, and they make that up by having a wide variety of cool, fun flavors.

however, from a quality and taste perspective Straus family creamery blows Ben & Jerrys out of the water. Downside is they have very few flavors. there is a Hamburger place in San Francisco thst makes their shakes with Straus ice cream and they are unbelievably good. A cheeseburger and shake at this place blows away most high end restaurants for 1/10 the cost.

Only iconic burger place I've been to in California was In-N-Out, and it was pretty good, but so unbelievably crowded.

In n Out is just good because its probably the best fast food chain out there and still relatively cheap.

Super Duper Burger completely crushes In n Out. In n Out tastes like good quality fast food. Super Duper is “fast food” that tastes like home made, only better than most people can make home made. you can see their menu etc here https://www.superduperburgers.com
or check pics and reviews on Yelp(keep in mind its still fast food not like. steak house or anything). There is one around the corner from my SF office and when i go there for work for the week I will pretty much eat there every day.

you mean the kind that melts just by looking at it? You have to use those big japanese soup spoons to really eat any of that stuff.

yeah there are some local places you can only get in shops like Lappert’s and Handels that best any store brands.

There are some local dairies that put out higher quality ice cream for less cost versus the typical national brands. The availability of boutique brands is going to vary a ton regionally, but if I wanted something good that's where I would start. That's about all I buy anymore. If I'm going to blow some of my daily calories on ice cream I figure I might as well be eating the good stuff.

Village Ice Cream in Calgary is the best Ice Cream I've ever had, it's super rich so if you are a Gelato fan, this is not for you.

They have their own stores, I’d guess at least 20 throughout the Midwest. Their ice cream isn’t too sweet which I like.

You have likely seen their milk in grocery stores, they only sell it in glass. It’s steep but I swear if you try their whole milk it’s a treat, there’s an actual taste difference. They’re known to this day for their milk delivery, never broke the tradition in almost a hundred years.
