Thanks, Mark! Right now, I'm in experimentation mode, but I will test it after a short getting to know you period.
When I picked it up last Thursday, it had a 41% charge, so I took it home and charged it to 100%. I drove to work and back and ran a few errands on Friday and that took it down to 78%. I went ahead and charged it again to 100% and have not charged it since. The specs state 256 miles on a charge and it is looking like that's doable.
The AWD dual motor is rated at 256 miles per charge and the single motor front wheel drive is rated at 303 miles per charge. It really pained me to decide to give up a potential 50 miles of range when deciding to go with the AWD, but I just couldn't go with the the lower trims as you lose all of the coolest things about the car....probably by design. lol

I don't know, I hope you're right. Full disclosure for anyone interested, the MSRP for my vehicle was $56,320.....what did I pay? Answer: $66,730. I know it sounds like a dumb purchase, and I almost walked away from the deal, but that is market value. I wouldn't pay anything less anywhere else.....assuming you could find one anywhere else. We live in some crazy times. I was able to put a decent chunk down and got a good interest rate, but it's pretty bitter pill to swallow.
I will be able to take advantage of the $7,500 federal tax credit, $2,500 state tax credit, and $500 credit for the home charging station, so I guess that pays for the premium I paid.

That is AWESOME! I have been trying to talk my wife into moving to a model x. I know there are other manuf out there, but my biggest concern is lack of charging network. Since we would travel in it from time to time, I am concerned about that. My buddy had a tycan and that was his gripe. Trying to find chargers (outside tesla ones) can be a big challenge.
Love the tech also. My wife recently got in an accident and totaled her car so we have been down one for a few months. Have not figured out what to replace it with yet. Love to see some more pics and know what you think after driving a bit!
Congrats!RAW lifts

Thanks, Man!
I'm convinced that you would love an EV given your tech tendencies. I'm no expert on the charging stations yet, but it's my understanding that there are no Tesla specific stations, but not 100% sure. My particular car will charge from 10% to 80% in about 18 minutes, so I'm not concerned about charging on road trips at all. It even has a button you can press that will list all of the charging stations near you within a certain radius. So far, I'm rarely more than 2 miles from the nearest charging station, but then again I've only done city driving.
I will definitely get some more pics up. I might try to do a video on the 0-60 test also.

That's just how it is right now inventory being what it is. So long as it is worth it to you is all that matters. The Ioniq is one of the few electric cars I have seen that I would buy. It looks like it is actually designed to be a comfortable and practical daily driver as opposed to a prototype just trying to show off technology. Enjoy man that is really cool!

I'm with you, they do nothing for me. But I've always been a car guy since I was like 10 years old.
As I've probably mentioned before, I'm in the market for a super low mileage C7, which I'll be daily driving. I'll probably keep it for five or six years and trade it in for a C8 (ideally a C8 ZO6 if I can clean up in the crypto market) and probably daily that. Pretty confident I won't actually have to buy an EV in my lifetime.Age: 42

Definitely Tesla is high on our list for next vehicle..... still waiting for other manufacturers to crack the code of how to make a truly practical, fast/fun EV - even though much of Tesla's stuff is open source

@busta Love to hear an update of how you like living with plug in. I have been really considering making the leap. We scheduled a test drive at Tesla for Wed. They dont have any Model X at the dealership, which I think is the one we want, but we will get to drive a model Y.
I am thinking we are ready to make the leap, but love to hear how you feel living with a full electric.RAW lifts

You have driven some of the most amazing cars in the world! Seems like you wouldn't be impressed with one of these EV's, but hopefully you'll find them intriguing as I do.
I love the car! I actually look forward to my morning and evening commute now. I'm sure as time goes by, the new will wear off and I will no longer be excited about it.
I have not charged at a public charging station just yet, but I likely only will do that on long trips. My commute to and from work is roughly 50 miles per day and I'm consistently using 17% of the total charge everyday. That translates to a 294 mile range which is pretty good. It's almost impossible to do a full range test on a 100% to 0% for obvious reasons, but estimating it this way seem effective. I have read that charging to 100% is hard on the battery as is the rapid charging, so when I charge at home I limit the charging to 11.4 kw and it takes roughly 5 hours to go from 20% to 85% and costs roughly $2.50 according to our electricity plan with our provider.
I did a quick and dirty 0-60 mph test and recorded it. Looks like roughly 5.5 seconds, but I did have a slight pause before I pressed the pedal.
I have really come to like the i-pedal, which is a single pedal driving system. It has four levels of braking that starts as soon as you release the accelerator. Each level applies an increasing amount of braking depending on how much you release the accelerator. Level 4 generally requires no braking by the driver...only in an emergency.
Seats are very comfortable and the ride is ridiculously smooth. Looking forward to taking a trip in it and charging at a public station for the first time to check out it's quick charge capabilities.

I am not a 'car snob'. One of the favorite cars I ever owned was a mini van we kept for 11 years. I currently have a Kia Sorrento which is my favorite SUV I have ever owned. SRS and I have had quite a few 'luxury' suvs etc. I dont need a vehicle as a status symbol. I really dont give 2 sh!ts and a car does not speak for who I am. What it does is, I love things that are designed and built well regardless of cost. I get my balls busted about my Sorrento all the time. It is a fantastic car btw!
Really looking forward to an electric and I think the X can actually replace our sorrento. I am stupid excited for my appointment tomorrow to check one out. Will be testing the "y" which is all they have to test drive.
When I built my home, I put a circuit in for the charger so it should be an easy transition. BIG thing is to see how my wife likes it. If she does not, there is no point in going further as I want her to have something she likes.RAW lifts

Well life moves fast. My wife and I went to Tesla and test drove. Really a cool experience. They only had a model Y available but it was really cool regardless.
My wife like it. Played with the full self driving and the auto park was cool as hell. It recognized the parking spots and just accept that you want it to park and it just takes over and parks for you.
So after leaving, we talking about. They are 8-9 months out on new deliveries so I reached out to a dealership I know. Made a deal and we should have it next week. SUPER excited. I need to get a charger for the garage, and looking forward to joining the revolution!RAW lifts

Awesome news, man! The technology really is amazing and fun. It's good to have connections to avoid that pesky waiting list. I just got lucky on mine. I'm not sure about all dealerships, but the one I purchased from was sold out through the end of the year and had nothing available until 2023.
I had my charging station installed by Smart Charge America and was pretty cost effective. There are many options and I'm sure you'll find the best deal.
On another note, I decided I wanted to bust my cherry on public charging today and stopped at the Electrify America near my house (12 miles away). My car came with 2 years free charging with them. I took it from 59% to 91% in like 13 minutes. It showed what it would have cost if I didn't have the plan and it was $5.12. Definitely not very cost effective to charge on the road, but like I said before, I'll only do that maybe a dozen or less times a year.
Anyway, congrats on your new ride!!!

The Ford Lightning is getting great reviews and I absolutely love some of the utility such as that huge frunk and ability to power your home in an outage. I however have no liked what I have seen from Ford quality and reliability I'm recent years. I often drive a corporate fleet leased 2020 Ford Explorer and the thing is a complete pile of crap from finish quality to reliability.

So I kinda started this ball in motion 5 years ago. When I built the house, I pre wired the garage for electric cars Yesterday I ran out there to confirm their location (s). So I am good to go. I had him put the circuits in, but left the breakers off in the panel.
Thanks man. SUPER excited in a lot of ways. I have wanted to explore this direction for a while. But my wife never really seemed warm to the idea. She was in a car accident in her car about a month ago. She suffered a concussion but could have been MUCH worse. Her car was totaled. See pic below but the entire front sub frame was detached in the process. The damage went all down her door and her car took a direct T impact from a girl in a truck. So looking to replace something for her to drive the idea of an electric came up again. I started showing her all the cool features etc. But she likes simple clean and elegant. Tesla is kind of more sterile and techy. But the safety is something that really won her over.
Excited but truly hoping it is something my wife will like. She is so hard to get a straight answer out of and I want her to be happy (and safe) in the end.
Yea compared to a 'normal' vehicle, any tesla feels very fast. I think the X has the equivalent of 620 hp. I did not get the plaid (which is another level of insanity) but I dont need the car for sub 3 second 0-60. So 100% truth here. We were really impressed by the model Y. That is all they had to test drive. It is MUCH bigger than I expected. But I might feel like a snob when I say this, the X just has a lot more luxury features and I wanted my wife to have a 'nice' car. It does stupid things for you like it senses you are coming and opens the door for you. Not just poping them. Fully opening them. When you sit in the car and put your foot on the brake, it then closes them. Gimmicky? sure, but pretty neat. I also like the X has adaptive ride height and can be raised and lowered.
But in my mind there is not much justification for the 50-60k price difference since the Y is ALMOST as big and just not quite as nice. That said, somethings dont always have to make sense. My wife told me she would be perfectly happy with the Y. And I believe her. But the small touches that make the X 'nicer' made the decision. The Y is truly impressive however!
I cant wait to see everything evolve over next few years. What I found most attractive of the Tesla in general is the entire network and how well integrated everything is. We are really going to make an attempt to use this as a family car and huge charging network and ability to just go anywhere and have available chargers was the primary thing that made Tesla the most attractive. I have a friend with a Tycan and his biggest complaint is it is a pain to go anywhere in it. For a fun car, or daily commuter, not a big deal. But if you might want to stretch the legs now and again, it seem hard to beat the tesla network.RAW lifts

So fun day today. Got the model X delivered.
Still getting used to things and there are 1,000, 000 settings. Getting netflix, hulu spotify and all streaming services hooked up.
Tesla app takes 3-5 days to process ownership transfer so I cant use some the phone app features yet.
Just trips me out though this car. The windshield is almost like sitting in a helicoper. Really feels a lot like it. You walk up to the car and it opens the door for you. When you sit in it and put your foot on brake, it closes the door. I love the ability to adjust ride ht. You can jack it way up or almost slam it low.
The auto pilot is just FREAKY. I am still not super familiar with it, but I let it drive me about 6 miles. This vid, I am doing nothing. It stopped for me and it is stearing and starting off with me doing nothing. Totally freaky feeling. The autopilot got mad at me since I ignored 5 minutes of warning where it was asking me to make an input and locked me out until next drive Some people put a little 1lb wight on the side of the wheel to fool the system to thinking you have a hand on it. Not saying I am going to do that, but maybe
I did not get the crazy one, but this has a 680 hp motor. (not the 1000hp one) Still a faster 0-60 than my old Lamborghini Gallardo. In a 7 passenger 5000+lb suv.
I know I am 'late to the party', but this stuff is pretty cool. I ordered a tesla wall charger and it should be here friday. This should really be a nice family mover. My wife is not really excited about it which kind of bums me out since I got it for her. I wanted her to have something nice. My wife is very simple though and I think after a while she will start to like it. She really love her c class. I told her she could have saved me a bunch of money if she wanted another. (hell I could have even bought an AMG and still had money left over compared to the X, but I think in time she will see how convenient this really is.

I've driven several Prius models for the past 20 years. Newest is my 2017 Prime, which is a hybrid EV. Full charge gets around 32 miles if set to drive electric-only (then it automatically switches to "normal" gas hybrid at 60+ mpg). The infrastructure definitely isn't there to support pure EV as a sole car. And I live in a condo without a dedicated parking space, so at-home charging isn't really an option.

I did a charge session at my nearest 'Electrify America' station this morning. I charged from 21% to 81% in 19:44. Not too bad considering this station's chargers are only 150 kw/h as opposed to the 350 kw/h chargers that the Ioniq 5 claims the charging from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
I took some time last weekend and educated myself fully on the charging of EV's. I have to apologize to ID for saying incorrectly that there are no dedicated Tesla charging stations. There are dedicated Tesla stations, but their destination stations, as they're called, are available for other manufacturers use. You just have to purchase a converter that converts from Tesla connector to the J-1772 connector.

Thats really cool @busta. I am diving into EV school and learning about stuff.
My wall changer is still enroute, so the 110v home adapter charges at 2 miles range every hour. I plugged it in for the hell of it, but will have to wait for charger to get here and then I can wire it in. The good news is I already have the circuit so it will just be a quick trip to Lowes for some conduit (I only need about a 3' piece as the outlet is only about 10" off garage floor.
I am very interested to see what this will be like. I think for us, it will be great. My daughter wanted to take it today and I was just a little nervous since she only drove it once and I was walking her though all the steps and functions. I trust her, want to make sure she knows the proper operation before really going somewhere in it.
The auto pilot thing scares me too. Going to take me a while till I have full confidence in that.
We have about 4 superchargers not far from the house. Closest one is about 6 miles away. I want to go try one but want to wait till my tesla account is transferred over and recognized as vehicle owner...etc.
I hope my wife warms up to it. One thing is it is optioned with 'bio weapon defense mode'. Translation: It has a giant medical grade hepa fliter and will positively pressurize the cabin and filter the air to greater than a clean room level. I laughed when I first read it, but it really is a crazy thing. There are all kinds of funny things in the car I have not had a chance to explore.
Also it has 'theater mode' where it plays netflix or any of your streaming services on the 18" center screen. My wife will like this when she pics my son up from school and has to wait in car rider. It is little stupid things, but hey that is what makes stuff fun.RAW lifts

Yeah, those 110v chargers are kinda of silly, but I can see a limited use for them. Does yours have the 240v adapter? Mine doesn't, but if it did, I could plug into the dryer outlet for a quicker charge. My home charging station is a 48 amp and charges at 10.9 kw/h so it takes 5-6 hours to fully charge the car depending on starting state of charge.

Hey, Mark. I have the Electrify America app since my car came with 2 years free charging with them. But my navigation system will locate charging stations near me as I'm driving. I don't think I have ever been more than 2 miles from a charging station driving in the Houston Metro.
Now that I am fully educated on charging, I'm not in the least bit concerned taking the car on a trip. Just might want to be careful in east Texas, lol. That area is pretty desolate.

The tesla charger that it comes with has interchangeable ends all the way up to 75amp plugs. My buddies told me I did not need to buy the home charger, but I wanted to keep the portable one in a bag in the car. But the one that comes with the car can be plugged into any amp service or voltage and will adjust. The home charger just looks cool too
When I built the house, I only had a 40 amp circut 220 v run. The home charger will accept up to a 75a service. You just program it with the amps of the breaker and it adjusts. I think for home charging we will be fine with the lower amp rate, but if it ever becomes an issue, I can run a larger service. I put in a 400amp service when I built the house and we have 3 full size panels. The one just on outside wall of garage would be easiest to make a run from.
I am still getting to learn all the ev stuff. I admit that the ease of use of the tesla network was one of the biggest draws to the brand. I think there are other really cool cars out there and in the future, I am sure options will grow.
What I like about the model X is it really has size to it. Even though we only have 2 kids, we also have 2 dogs and when traveling, for vacations, and visits, we tend to be maxed out in our old mini van and now sorrento which has 7 seats and decent suv size. So the X has the capacity to not be too big a compromise space wise.
That said, the model Y is not small and I think we could have gotten by with it. The x just has a little my 'luxury' stuff and I wanted my wife to have a 'nice' car so she would look past the technical aspects (which she does not love.) Personally I would have been fine with the Y but I do appreciate the more 'substantial' stance of the X,
VW has a cool looing ev suv coming out as well. This kind of stuff is fun and watching the world change right in front of our eyse!RAW lifts

Congrats ID. Hope you like the X.
My son who owns the Tesla bought his wife a new Kia Niro EV. I've driven/ridden in it and it's a pretty nice car.
My other son and his family were just in from AZ and he checked out the Niro and when they went home they went to the Kia dealership and signed a contract for a Niro EV that is enroute to the dealership.
Both of my sons have solar on their homes and can charge the vehicles for free so that helps a ton.

My wall charger came in today and I wired it up. NOW this is much more practical. Been driving it a bunch. Took my wife out to lunch today. Great Friday fish fry. I was just amazed at how quietly we could talk along the drive. To give her confidence in the auto pilot, I let the car drive most of the way. She is WAY too nervous and has told me she wont use it, so I want her to see how nice it is. Especially in stop and go traffic, it is SUPER nice. You just kind of let the car handle all that. I set my following distance back a ways and it very smootly goes from moving traffic to full stops and then back again as traffic starts moving.
I need to clean the car. It was transported enclosed, but still had some dust on it. Wanted to get it nice and cleaned up! But we are having a car event tomorrow, so I will probably be cleaning a fun car in the morning for that. Been a few weeks since I have done any 'car' stuff. Had back to back soccer tournaments. Season ended. Would have been nice to have taken the tesla on one of the trips. Cant wait for some highway drives.
