Back when I ate red meat, the best steak I ever had was at a place called El Gaucho here in Seattle.

It was a limited offering they had specially prepared and aged for their menu.

I think the steak alone costed like $90, and I was celebrating my anniversary with my ex girlfriend.

that place is cool. i never ate there but i was walking by once and just had to peak behind those giant carved doors. it felt like walking back in time to like 1920s Spain or something. i was alone so would feel totally awkward eating there alone even though i was on the company dime.

Not Spain, but... kind of like this?

One of the most alluring, atmospheric movies I've ever seen. The seamless lapses into the past are some of my favorite parts.

    Exactly!

They also have a good bar for happy hour and there is a booze-friendly movie place downstairs… I really like it

I hear ya. It's definitely worth a stop for sure!

very expensive as you know, but if it's on company dime, can't go wrong!

I've been to Canlis multiple times as well... their seafood is amazing as well as their wine selection... but for Steak, I think the El Gaucho was better.

i don’t know if still the case, but the owner of Blu Water Bistro used to have 3 restaurants with different names and only hired gorgeous women, and to top it off they had great seafood. but i havent eaten there in years

    Whoops, thanks for catching that.

Ribeyes are great but sometimes they are unexpectedly gristly.

    Interdasting. I think this is a must-try!

Back when I ate red meat, the only cut of steak I ever really cared to eat was filet. Any other cut was too fatty. Being broke, this was rarely an option anyway. As a kid, I could only get nasty cheap/chewy steaks down with knock-off A1 sauce. Ahhh yea...terrible memories

Obviously, I'm far from a connoisseur of steaks, but I have to ask red meat bruhs...ketchup on steaks? Yay or nay? I know some people that like ketchup on (typically well-done) steak. Am I right for thinking this is just an act of debased sacrilege to steak-lovers?

Nay. My mom was raised in a 2nd world country. Her dad died on a mountain hiking trip with the family and my mom had to help bring his body down when she was 12 years old. He had a PhD in economics and was a professor. Pretty sure that bringing him down changed her. She only eats overly well done steaks.

Not for me, but I do like it on hamburger steaks or if I'm just eating ground beef in some form.

Legitimate steak cooked medium or medium rare is plenty juicy to be requiring sauce in my book. A1 is nice but it's not necessarily called for, either.

Nay, but a well-done steak IMO is more sacrilegious - ketchup on an overcooked steak actually sounds reasonable. I'll usually have some steak sauce like Luger's, but will also eat a lot of the pieces without sauce too to enjoy the natural flavor.

There is a place outside St Louis in Alton Illinois called Fast Eddies Bon Aire. It originally was a 1 room bar, but now it takes up an entire city block. Buildings and the street. Their signature food is called "Steak on a Stick". It's sirloin and green pepper kebobs. The sirloin is marinated in A1 overnight before it's made into kebobs. One of Robert Wadlow's shoes is on display in there.

Eddie Sholar owned it. He sold a winning $5,000,000 Illinois lottery ticket there back in the 80's. The retailers get 1% of any winning tickets. He sent all him employees to Hawaii for a vacation with his share of the lottery money.
