How Do I Improve Neck Mobility?

Stand up straight and try to look as far over your shoulder as you can. When I do that I feel a tightness in my upper back so it's really painful to look over my shoulder. Any physio brahs can tell me which muscle is causing it? If i look over my left shoulder its like a sore ache from neck down the centre (but slightly offset to the right) back, about 7-9 inches down then it stops.
Poverty reps for a diagnosis and some exercises I can do to help it

Do you get the pain when you look both ways? What about with lateral flexion of the neck, neck extension/flexions, and forward/backward head protrusion? Any pain if you press along the the cervical spine or upper back/neck area? any pain with shrugs or overhead shrugs or when doing face pulls or Y raises?

No pain doing any of the exercises you mentioned. Neck mobility in every other direction seems fine. The pain seems to have gone down a lot after using a motorised neck/back massager last night. My upper back/neck is painful today after using it, similar to after having a thai massage (painful to touch not look over shoulder like it was)
I just want to me able to look further over my shoulder than I currently can. As of now I can just about point my chin 90 degrees left/right from forward, but even 90 takes some strain to hold in place

Actually 90 degrees each way (so 180 degrees total) is better than many, I'm not sure you're going to be able to increase that much at all. https://www.livestrong.com/article/9...-range-motion/

Might have pulled your muscle, it will get better within couple days itself. Not sure, but maybe its Trapezius muscle.
