I'm M20, not planning to do heavy bodybuilding. I'm just trying to lose some fat and put on some muscle. Should I use Supplements?

The people who have negativity toward supps are the people who don't use them, have zero knowledge of them, and have formed an opinion without doing any research/homework on them.
I'll be 52 next week and have continuosly used all sorts of various OTC supps since I was 18. My blood numbers at my yearly physicals always come back off the charts. In fact, one year my Dr asked me for tips on eating and training.
Supps aren't this magical substance that greatly changes your body. Supps have a small effect in the big scheme of things. Your regular diet and training habits will have the biggest effect on your body.2017 OCB Men's Physique Open 4th place

OP, the term "supplements" is incredibly broad.
What do you mean by "negativity" - harmful? A waste of money?
For example, over-the-counter "testosterone boosters" are largely a waste of money. 2 to 3 points on a 1000 point swirl is basically worthless.
"Fat burners" do not magically burn fat. They typically either 'dull' your appetite, or offer caffeine for extra energy/moving around. But they are generally a waste of money.
BCAA supplementation is generally worthless if you are getting enough protein in your diet already.

You don’t need a trainer. Most trainers work for a gym/are a representative for a brand of supplements and will push them on you.
A lot of “supplements” are not needed like mentioned above.
The idea you need a protein shake right after every workout is BS. Whey can be an option that is convenient if you have trouble eating enough protein, but real food is better and if you eat with in a couple of hours that’s fine.
Diet sups/test boosters/preworks promising coq10 and other added benefits are pretty much snake oil. If you want a preworkout coffee is cheap and creatine and bcaa powder. But, it’s really unnecessary
Multi’s can fill in gaps in nutrition but general are a waste if you eat decently and if you are actually deficient in say iron or calcium they won’t have enough of that vitamin or mineral to correct it. You can only find out what you are deficient in with blood work. But if you just want to take one get something simple like men’s once a day by a good third party tested brand.
