This is probably a dumb question. I do dumbbell bench presses at home. I do ten in a row, then rest. When resting, is it best to get off the bench and put the dumbbells down?

Yeah I find it best to set them down. You can't really rest properly for a couple of minutes while holding them. I suppose you could, but that would be a lot on your grip and you'd still be "carrying" the weight in a sense.
IMO better to just put them on the ground and row them back up for your next set.Bench: 345
Squat: 405
Deadlift: 505
