What you are denying is literally being debated in your backyard on the East coast. The term and curriculum were derived from the left Marxist principles. If I had children, I would not want them exposed to such an effort to indoctrinate instead of teaching them how to think.

Can you give an example? I certainly don’t see it in what my boys are doing in school. The way I understand Critical Theory, is it was originated by the Frankfurt School to be a possible explanation for the actions of individuals aggregated to systems/institutions, only focusing the aperture to race. There's other branches of critical theory like technology theory, social theory, critical legal studies and so on.

So CRT is largely a stodgy concept that until last year lived exclusively in academic circles and was enlisted in the culture wars to provide grounds to object being taught the actions of white people against minority groups in America. The span between what CRT is and why it's being invoked in these arguments seems incredibly expansive.

I agree CRT is often being discussed by politicians and talking heads on he news. Although I never see any evidence of it in any particular curriculum and I certainly don’t see it in what my kids are learning. It doesn’t seem to be any more than a right wing boogeyman phrase now. It's like how there was no event to trigger the transgender bathroom drama, it was just republicans inventing a problem and forcing a solution. They're pushing to ban a theory in public schools that is only taught at an advanced college level in select fields.

Same. 5th and 3rd grader at least until end of day today. Haven't seen this in our part of NY and I'm pretty involved. I keep hearing about it but figured it was just another "boogie man" blown out of proportion used as red meat to feed a certain base. Have to have some new hits for upcoming rallies if they expect to fund that "war chest".

You are correct, left and right wing are lazy words that are generally used pejoratively to describe the extremes of the political spectrum. I should do better avoiding such generalizations but in the context of my post I used it as a catch-all for Conservative political activists, talking heads, politicians, etc.

The question really wasn't to make a point. I am curious to read your outlook on most issues, so I like to have reference points for the dialog. Most political vocabulary mean something different depending on who is using the term.

I have my own definitions for left and right wing or liberal and conservative or Republican or Democrat et cetera at cetera ad nauseum. By my definitions, I actually know very few left or right wing persons, and they tend to be noisemakers.

I strongly suspect that the vast majority of Americans want the same thing, we are all just using the wrong language to talk to each other.

I'm not Republican, but I guess the uproar in Virginia is just made up and also made up by some right-wing conspiracy? No one here said CRT has penetrated every county in the US. In Virginia, Fairfax County, considered Ground Zero of the CRT debate, a lot of parents (apparently right-wing MAGA activists) are fighting against CRT being taught to their children and they have a right to contest it if they believe it is not or should not be part of their children's curriculum. Not because they are MAGA, not because they supported what happened on January 6, not because they are all Trumpers or not because they all hate black people and not because they are all secret members of the KKK.

No, what I think and what this Hill piece lays out is this is political grandstanding; creating a problem and then offering a solution for some sort of political gain.

As each day passes I'm leaning more into our Goat Mans theories of "evil gubbmit". I'd like to see the same energy each side uses to cancel and stick it to each other instead used for the overall good. Like Doug said, and I believe, most of us mainly want the same things. Its the power grabbers and grifters that need the division in order to do whatever the fuk they are trying to do. And IMO this is just another large spoonful of crap to feed a hungry base.

Anyhoo, as a parent of young kids I have already and will continue to remind my kids they never need to apologize for being born white or having all their needs met. I'll continue to be involved in their education and hopefully a positive force in their lives shielding out much of this outside nonsense.
