    New monolift attachments

Scored some new custom-fabbed (UK supplier) adjustable monolift attachments. I think they look pretty sweet, and they have plastic liners everywhere to protect the bar and rack… but the best feature is the rollers for horizontal adjustments.

I guess I can be pretty happy that Rogue Europe took a year to restock their monos and forced me to look elsewhere.

I like the rollers on those. Also, they appear way less cumbersome than some I have seen.

I’ve got no experience with other monolifts, mind you, but it seems pretty handy on the bench to get the bar centered. Looking forward to trying them on squat day next week…

great design with the roller cups. i've found that the benefit of having the bar directly over chest and not needing a spotting partner really reduces the need to be perfectly centered but it's for sure a nice perk.

    They look great!

Don't forget to try them for bench press as well--I like mine better for bench than I do for squats.

+1. I've had shoulder issues for years and every little bit helps me keep working without reigniting another impingement.

Nice pick up. Love the rollers and looks super well made. They went a bit hockey-stick for the counter weight but it's rounded so not too bad. I used to routinely bash my bald noggin into my Rogue's (catch the squared edge right and will draw some blood) so I like Mech's approach to counter weighting with everything balled together and not sticking out. Thought it would be better when I moved to 6 posts but the Rogue still nicked me on the occasion.

That said, monos rule. I keep them fixed and only use for squatting but they are genius.

There have been several instances where I wanted to adjust my barbell but had to completely unrack the bar to do so, having the rollers would make this incredibly easy. Also, unlike Rogue/Titan be sure to have them offset to allow for additional grip width, a feature that was much appreciated on Mech's design

To be honest, benching was the primary purpose for which I purchased them. I actually haven’t yet used them on a squat, though I intend to as well. :P

Now that my form is much better on the bench (coaching from Kabuki), I find that unpacking off J-cups isn’t so bad, but I figure every little bit of energy I can save for pushing the weight straight down and up is probably a good thing.

Oh, and rlundregan, thanks for the greenies!

Yeah, it’s a bit simplistic I grant you, but it works well, and with the all black it’s relatively un-obnoxious in the gym, so from an aesthetics point of view it’s ok. Haven’t bumped into them yet, so not sure the rounded edges will matter to me, but again I like the way they look. They even have, from a certain angle, a sort of Enterprise 1701 warp nacelle sort of look…

Roller cups aside, would you say these are better than Rogue’s monolift hooks? Specifically looking for good clearance when the arms swing back and being able to easily rack the bar. Read a few people express reservations about Rogue version not swinging back far enough and hitting the hitch pin when it swings.

Do the roller cups have any kind of plastic on them? Wondering if they will eat into the bar at contact points.

It's just a matter of time for these things to happen, people are just being turned on to rollers even though they have been around for a long while. Honestly I just need to learn how to weld and start producing my own ideas and sell them to Titan LOL

Basement Brandon worked with Rogue on one or two things and is getting royalties. I'd start with them. Titan will probably just copy your idea and pretend like they never met you.

I'd GIVE them my monolift design if they actually produced it. And I guess royalties would be nice. But I don't see it happening. Why would they? People keep buying what they're offering and every other major manufacturer is just releasing variations of the same basic theme.

I wonder why smaller fabricators such as Edge or BWTG aren’t running batch production with your design. It has already been tested, well received and there definitely is demand. Should be straight forward to produce a batch of 50 like they do with SSB bars.

Problem is that your design isn't made for mass production.
The is a lot of labor and needs to be made by a qualified fabricator..
That is one reason the Rogue one was so successful and everyone copied that design

Wish I got royalties for all that I did. Lol I'd be living large in the Bahamas right now...

Yep, I agree. There are ways to make it less labour intensive but it would still be a lot more than their current offering.

Finally gave front squats a try this morning. I’m surprised, but I like the monos better on those than I do on the bench!

Do the roller cups have any kind of plastic on them? Wondering if they will eat into the bar at contact points.
Way more plastic protecting everything (bar, uprights) than Rogue’s. Quite nice from that perspective.

As for the amount of swing, you have to learn to position yourself properly. First couple front squat warmups, I hit the monos. Then I realized I was standing too far forward when unracking, and after I moved back two inches, no more problem. Of course, if your form is up and you’re swinging the bar forward when ascending, that’s not gonna help your cause.

That said, I’ve never used any other monos, so take it with a grain of salt. If I had, I would have asked him to replicate Mech’s design (hadn’t seen it before this thread, though I’d heard about it) and I’d have asked for bigger J-cups so that I could use my SSB on them too.

And I’ve gotten some reps from a couple people on this thread, so thanks for that to everyone!

They even have, from a certain angle, a sort of Enterprise 1701 warp nacelle sort of look…
BTW wasn't calling them simplistic at all. Basically they are a top tier offering and dealt with the sharp stick issue by rounding them. If they had Mech's counterweight design/shape I'd view them as best in class given the rollers (haven't tried them but under assumption anyway).

Haven't been able to "rep" many of you for a year or more...not for lack of trying.
