    Workout after covid

    Hi everybody!

Sadly, me and my husband tested positive for covid. Our symptoms were very mild. We only coughed a little and lost our sense of smell. We haven't had any fever or low oxygen saturation.

Next Tuesday I'll be able to go back to my normal life. I'm feeling well, and I want to start working out again. Shall I slow and steady? Can I try working out as before covid? I've heard several opinions and read different approaches. I didn't have anything in my lung nor heart.

    What can I start with?

    Thank you

I'm a very healthy person, no overweight, no pulmonary or cardiac issues (and didn't have while infected with covid)

I workout pretty hard and heavy normally.

It should be exactly the same as before covid I think?

If you've only paused your training for a couple weeks or so, then just get back to it as before. If it's been months, then ramp back up over a couple weeks to avoid serious soreness that could slow your return. DOMS is normal but you should take it easy if you've had a long layoff and it's going to be so bad you can't work out again for several days.

You’re fine. Go lift something and put it down and pick it back up again.

I would do a full body workout your first day without pushing yourself too hard on any individual set. If your heart rate starts getting unusually high I would stop. If you have no heart issue then see how you feel the next day; if you feel good you'll probably be in a good place to go back to your usual workouts the next session.

I know a few people that've been having trouble getting back to their pre-covid training levels (especially regarding cardio and high intensity/heavy lifting).

Listen to your body, don't force yourself, don't expect to be exactly where you left off and you will be fine.

    But definitely start moving again.

Let us know how it goes.

Recovered covid patients have a compromised lung function. So I would suggest that first of all you should work on improving your breathing through respiratory and thoracic expansion exercises and then only move to aerobic exercises.

More importantly, they have about as much permanent lung damage as someone who has had a bout of bronchitis before. A little scarring but it isn’t like your whole lung doesn’t work anymore.

I agree with you, the primary step is to take care of your respiratory system, heavy workouts can wait, especially after recovering from covid because the energy level decreases after getting any disease.

Start with just movements or light exercise 1st week. 2nd week and on increase intensity gradually. No need to hurry, you will catch up again where you were before. Its all about a start.
