This I use citi double cash it's 1% when you buy and 1% when you pay so as long as you're paying your statements you get 2% on everything.
Also, CC is the safest possible way to purchase something. If there is a fraudulent buy you just tell them and they refund it. I would NEVER use a debit card for anything except ATM withdrawals.
Long story short unless you're irresponsible and max out your card and don't pay it there is no reason to not have and use a CC.*PUREBLOOD CREW*

Yes. Just don't be an r-tard like most poorcels and actually use the credit to buy chit you don't need/isn't a productive asset.
Brb, build credit history
Brb, lower interest rates on car/home loans once you have a good enough credit score
Brb, cash back or travel points for free
Brb, fraud charges from merchants that screw you over and get money refunded no questions asked
Brb, airport lounge access and Lyft Pink for free (Chase Sapphire Reserve crew checking in)
You don't have to get one with an AF for now, but at least get a no fee card that gives you cash back to start with.

Lmfao peasant CSR. OP go full alpha and get the Amex plat. $15 free uber credits monthly, free global entry, free Amex centurion lounges at the airport (SRS HNNNNNNNNNG- good food, usually got 2-3 bars in each lounge with wine/beer/full bar, and great coffee and atmosphere- this alone with the yearly fee again 100% SRS don't know how peasants travel without this!).
Feelzbad tho because I have the CSR and my wife has the AMEX plat card lulz.Fitness connoisseur

Das it mane. I have a sapphire but will probably switch to Amex eventually
OP a good intro credit card is a Discover IT card. Very easy to get one and 5% cash back on rotating categories (grocery, restaurants, Amazon, gas, etc) and 1% cash back everything else. Great card for beginners and no fee
As others have said just don’t be a poorcel. Don’t ever carry a balance. If you can’t buy it in cash then you can’t afford it. Have that mentality for everything and a credit card is a great friend. In the last few years I’ve gone to hawaii, Iceland, Bahamas, and Japan.
Guess how much I paid for those flights in total? $0. Travel points are nice

lol @ people suggesting OP get the Platinum Preferred 3x Miles Choice Premium card, when he has no fcking credit history.
OP I think I was about your age when I got my first credit card. You have two options: 1) Get a secured card to start off with, then move onto better cards in the future OR 2) Get a decent credit card but have someone co-sign for it. Depends on your situation.
fwiw I have a Discover It card (which wasn't my first card.) 5% cash back on rotating categories (Grocery stores, PayPal, Gas Stations, Amazon) throughout the year. In no time flat I have about $500 in cash back. Breddy gud, imo. One thing I do is buy myself a gift card when Amazon is on 5% cashback. Buy a $200-300 gift card and get $10-15 back from that purchase. There's a lot of things you can do to maximize it.
Another thing to consider is that a lot of places out there figure in merchant fees into their prices. So if you buy something it makes more sense to use a credit card than cash, otherwise you are spending a little more than you need to.

Nope. It's a trap to suck us into perpetual debt, and it's been proven that people spend more when using a credit card. Even if you plan is to pay it off every month... that was everyone's starting plan. Meanwhile, 50% of Americans now carry a balance (and pay interest on that balance) every month.
I cut up my last credit card four years ago, credit score disappeared six months later, and I'll never go back.

Just lol if you aren't using a top tier card for the bonus points alone. BRB $1k bonus within 3 months for all travel. Pays for a small vacation just by signing up. Not to mention all the perks. By the time I pay the annual fee, the annual credits will offset the annual fee. Points stack up faster with a premium card. Free upgrades at hotels. Airport lounges. Free precheck or global entry. President status w/Hertz, brb pick anything on the lot. Free phone insurance even if your fault.
Better yet, I'll take some business trips, brb fly first class and stay in luxury hotels with free upgrades and I make 10% back immediately. Can cancel anything before 48h of booking period.
Then there's the concierge service.
You'd have to be a typical bone head miscer to not see the benefits, or you can't do simple math.★★★ A State of Trance Crew ★★★
