He's still in the fight. His thousand yard stare at the end of the Dariush fight was disconcerting. Might be realizing his body just isn't what it was.

Let's say their records were comparable. You still have to work your way up the ranks, however subjective they may be.

I admire Tony's toughness and never say die mentality

but he should either retire or go to Bellator, probably retire if he's financially set. I don't think he's beating people in the top 10 anymore. Getting rekt by Dariush kinda seals it and the blueprint is there. Just get Tony to the ground and grapple him to death. Any competent BJJ/wrestler should be able to do that at this point.

The best thing for him would be to get released by UFC so he could continue fighting in Bellator or one of the other minor league organizations, nothing left but more beatings for him in UFC.

He had good run, but it was very clear Gaethje shattered his fragile mental state to the point he can't recover. You can physically see it happen in that fight. Maybe going to another organization would help him regroup mentally.
