I haven't ran the numbers but sounds like the shortage would have happened eventually anyways. Panic hoarding just pushed up the date.

Something seemed up on Saturday when the news took off. All the stories were the same wire story just saying the same thing. It was known by some people then it would take possibly weeks to restart after given the all clear (which who knows if they are rid of the ransomware). This info is all dribbling out, which tells me they are purposefully withholding info to avoid a panic. That usually means its worse then they're saying.

I'm guessing some areas nearby this pipeline and not able to get fuel other ways will see serious outages over the next 1-2 weeks. There'll be fights, price gouging... lots of fun in store

We had the same thing happen here in NC a few years ago when the pipeline exploded. Everyone is rushing out right now to top up their tanks, so they're pushing out the next normal fillup. When the panic buying is over in a couple days, the only ones who will be hitting the stations after that will be those who burn through a lot of gas. By the time things are back and the gas is making its way to the stations again, the stations will be less busy than they normally would be. If you're lucky enough to have enough gas in your tank to make it a week or so, you shouldn't have any problem filling up when you have to.
