I'd love to see that if Punk returns, they should do it on June 24th marking the 15 year anniversary since they competed for the ECW Championship in Vengeance.
This would be a Friday so they could do it on Smackdown instead of a PPV.
Hopefully Morrison is holding a title by then so Punk can come and challenge for it.
Interesting thing I noticed when combing the archives:
archive.is/s7IDE
by 20 June 2007 they had added "ECW World Title Match" with Preview linking to /vengeance/matches/40811641113/preview/ as you can see by hovering...
If you visit (the earliest archive was made by Wayback on June 25th) it's advertising the Punk/Benoit match:
archive.is/vc2E2
By the next scroll (June 27th) you can see they changed it to "Johnny Nitro def. CM Punk"
archive.is/9Kmis
and link to a new version of the page
archive.is/cSlkx
The match number is the same but the "results" clearly has a different competitor than the preview, the Nitro victory narrated by Bryan Robinson
These two facing off should be complicated by the arrival of Kevin Sullivan in WWE and manipulating Damian Priest.

We saw a great show of talent between John and Drew a few months ago on Raw. I am sorry, I am just not a Punk fan. It just would not be booked correctly. Plus if he didn't win he would quit anyway. We saw it when Dave B. won the Royal Rumble and he thought he should win.

Would be cool to see but won't happen. I don't think Punk would come back for a Smackdown match that only like 10% of fans would realize the significance of it. Also they sadly don't want to book Morrison seriously. He seems happy getting paid and joking around with his buddy Miz so I can't fault him for it.

At first yeah, but I'd keep an eye on things post-Backlash especially with MITB looming.
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest in JM won that and this time Miz backs him up.
It seems like they're building to a break the way Miz keeps interfering at the wrong moments and JM keeps getting late-counted so his 3-4 second pins are only getting 1-2 slaps.
Fighting over MITB would be the last straw so it might delay until then, they're being subtle at first but I can't be the only one who sees the hints.
