possibly a new 2021 or try and find a 2020 to grab off the lot
used later year ones go for pretty good prices so rather just go new...thoughts? Anyone have a 2020 or 2021 model yet?

when you say R/T are you looking at the Scat Pack level with the 392 6.4L or a more basic with the 5.7
i don't hate the 5.7 but i own the SRT with the 392 in it, have had it for years, and i really found that it is a big step up from the 5.7. so whatever your price situation is, i would rather spend the same money on a used 392 from a couple years ago vs a new(er) 5.7 if that makes sense. the engine is worth whatever other sacrifices you have to make in years or in other features.

people are going to tell you they get beat on when they're young or leased and thats probably true. frankly if i were in your shoes i'd roll the dice anyway if it meant having the bigger 6.4L.
i haven't searched for a while but i'd still rather buy, for example, a 3 year old 392 with >15k miles coming off a lease vs a new 5.7. i'm just all about the engine. these are big long heavy rides and you need something to haul it with. the 5.7 is fine but the bigger 6.4 launches it and gives you the experience it was intended for IMO.
where's your budget? if you're at 40k i think you can pull of a 2018 scat pack shaker for example, depending on your location.

ah i see. throwing in taxes too and you unfortunately won't be able to swing a 392 without it being 5 years old or so. however if the age does not bother you, you can look up a SRT "Core" Challenger package where it's the big engine and bare bones accessories/features. those tend to be mid 30s right now or less.
if you let go of the 392 idea, you do have newer options at the R/T 5.7L level, including a shaker "plus" they did a couple years ago.

More than you can afford, pal.
Also, don't waste your money on a 5.7. The Challenger is a pig. The only motor worth a chit in that car is the 6.4This fool's running a Honda 2000

well i'm a dodge guy so i'll say challenger. depends on what you want here, the challenger is bigger although correct me if i'm wrong, those years the camaro was still pretty damn big and heavy too. it didn't lighten up until 2016. so with that in mind i'll lean dodge anyway.
visually the chally is truer to the roots. i always thought the camaro had a bit of an identity crisis going on. i wanted the older look with the exaggerated hips and traditional muscle car appearance.

How much of that budget is going towards a pit bull, tattoos, and funds to fight eviction? Or am I thinking of a charger?

Save for a year longer and get the 6.4L. I had that motor in my Jeep SRT, it’s perfect for that car.
The normal 5.7L isn’t a bad motor by any stretch, but it is a bit underpowered for that large and heavy of a vehicle. I’ve had the 5.7 in three vehicles (two trucks and one Durango), and it sounds AMAZING with exhaust, just lacking a bit in power.

OP I've been looking heavily into a charger scat pack wide body and like everyone ITT says... Get the scat pack 6.4.
Every forum or opinion I've read has said the same thing. Personally for me it's wide body or nothing! But at least get the 6.4 scatSometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Not sure where you're from, geography plays a huge part. Challengers/Camaros and the likes of "American Muscle" is almost entirely associated with tasteless cringe Beaners out here. Just make sure you get the car model or your last name decal'd in cursive writing on your rear windshield along a decal of your local Nfl football's team.
If you're in AZ/Cali, or Chicago just pick a different marque.
