Any Rocket League Players Here?

I'm a High Gold/Low Plat player

I've been trying to learn how to air dribble but still can't do it

How did you learn advanced mechanics?

It's so hard rolling the opposite direction when the car is upside down, the cognitive dissonance is messing with me

Ranked plat3 in 2s, crashed to plat1, back to plat2. I'm playing less now though cause I don't have any fight left in me and and am being emotionally obliterated every game. I was in practice the other day trying to do some air dribbling (and the custom training packs are sometimes very good for this if the right one is there) and I found a frequent error I make is I drive into the ball when Im already going fast enough when I could just glide into it for the perfect first touch off the wall. In a training pack I got a really good grip of one ball and it was cause I just kind of fell/glid into it and got absorbed by the ball/absorbed the ball myself cause I was going the perfect speed which is quite slow compared to how fast you play at.

I hit d2 this season in 2s. Back to p3. 2s is the only game mode I can tolerate solo queuing. Sometimes you find a teammate with a brain and you party up and win 10 in a row.

As for your question... I wouldn't worry about air dribbling or advanced mechanics in low plat/high gold. Work on being in the right place at the right time. If I can give you one thing to learn that will help in every single game, it's the half-flip, so you aren't driving backwards like an idiot if you get beat to a ball. Change your camera... the default camera is AIDS. I just looked up a pro player and changed to their settings and it's night and day. Get some situational awareness... what I saw over and over and over again in low plat is just mindlessly hitting the ball. Sometimes the best move is to not hit the ball... turn ball cam off and look around, or maybe your teammate has the better angle. Work on your aerials... when you get confident in aerials, work on your air roll to hit the ball in the direction that you want.

Was a grand champ back in the early days. I have an old hard drive somewhere with a bunch of recordings, when I used to play ranked after midnight I would play against a ton of pro teams and players. It was really fun back then.

I don't play much anymore, just here and there when I'm really bored. Still the goat game tho. It's just hard to get back into, I think the skill ceiling has far surpassed me and even the general playstyle of season 1. Discouraging when I can't be as good as I used to be

pro level gameplay continues to evolve, it's actually crazy.

pros also have upwards of 10K hours on this game...

currently grand champ in 3s and 2s. was a season 14 and season 2 gc.

have like 1100 hours in the game, it's great because the matches are only 5 minutes so you can get in a game anytime.

for improving, forget ceiling shots and flip resets until you are SSL. your positioning, making good touches, and being able to hit the ball with power will take you far further than any fancy mechanic.

Currently diamond in 2's and 3's. I've gotten so close to champ but it gets really tough and one of the guys I play with refuses to go beyond his current skillset and improve.

skill level has definiely improved

i am a diamond player in 3v3 and a champion player in 2v2.

used to be champion in both modes, but like i said the skill gap is crazy now and diamonds are like champions. I don't know how to air dribble, but I can hit an aerial pass and play crazy good defense which is the reason for my "high ranking"... but seeing some diamond players hit shots like its the rocket league championship tournament, aerial off the ceiling shot is mind blowing.

i play nightly around 11pm-2am. you guys play around there you probably seen me, im the dude with the peppa pig smoking icon
