No, that does not make the flu deadlier. Seasonal flu death totals include influenza and its attributable pneumonia deaths together. Even during the worst flu seasons, only around 4,000 deaths were ever listed as being from influenza. Nearly all the deaths are from the pneumonia deaths that estimated to be from influenza. Using the same measures, the covid burden is around 3-5x worse.

This. Pneumonia deaths and flu deaths are lumped together as respiratory deaths, but in my country pneumonia deaths are 4/5 respiratory illness deaths. Flu is 20%.

The black plague, for example, would kill a perfectly healthy human being. The spanish flu, the russian flu, the bubonic plague. People under 80 years old were at a very high risk of death from these diseases. I can't find any other disease that on its own had an under 5% kill rate that we called a pandemic.
