But the taxes aren't the main problem. Its that the government can raise taxes to any amount they want and kick you off land if they choose. You can be Eminent domained, if they decide to build a highway though your land, and they can deem a fair price however they want. You can have a great piece of business property on a busy street and they decide to widen the road and cut out all your parking making it garbage.

In the late 90’s I was putting cable in what I would basically call a shack with a small addition on the Lake in Invemere . Not a really hot spot of anything.
Anyways ,the guys telling me he bought it back in 1957 for 13K , and is now paying 10K tax a year , so he had to get his son inlaw and daughter living with him in order to try and stay their .
Absolute bs imo, but I don’t doubt the guy sold it for a small fortune later on to some rich dude , who mowed it down and put a multimillion dollar house on the property .
Couldn’t imagine the taxes now, as OPs welfare checks wouldn’t even cover them
