If I had to pick out of those two solely on color I'd probably go with the red. I have a grayish stratocaster. I got it on sale and that was the only color left. I'm more into the purpose of the guitar and its sound above and beyond color scheme.
I also have one of those 'classic' sunburst Les Pauls and it looks real nice.
Always been a fan of the natural wood look, honestly.*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*

*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*

*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

As a luthier, I would agree to a point. I’ve owned both. There are some great Fender CS out there. I had a CS 54 that was one of the best guitars I’ve even seen. MusicMan Family Reserve is best and it’s not even close in my opinion as far as quality.
As an artist, and that is what John Suhrs guitars are, he has a few controversial theories regarding tone woods. John has always been a big fan of a basswood which is cheaper and rather ugly variety. EVH had the same thoughts on basswood. I lean on agreeing with them, but the looks of basswood requires a solid color finish.
Of the two, I’ve always been a sucker for the light blue shades.

Holy Cow, somebody beat me to it.
Although I prefer it with a white pickguard and a maple fingerboard/headstock.
Bought a Fender American Standard in 1986 with that set up. Sold it and got a black Strat Plus the next year. Still have the Strat Plus, but may change it to a lake placid blue body someday.
Edit: Memory Fail. Mine was Aquamarine Metalic. Pretty close though. So my vote is Lake Placid Blue or Aquamarine Metalic.Last edited by JustTheDad; 05-06-2021 at 11:59 AM.

Very true for electrics, although "as good as" and the same aren't the same thing. Weight matters, a little. Neck stiffness probably matters more.
I'm working on an African Mahogany back/Quilted Maple top tele style body in my shop right now. Carbon reinforced African mahogany neck. I didn't choose those for sound. I chose them for looks, stability, and weight. Strings and pickups affect tone more than the body wood, as do the amp and effects you add, but saying that doesn't help luthiers sell guitars. Either way, Suhr makes nice guitars.
