https://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...-b1842731.html“Too many people are dying, as many members have already repeated with numbers,” she told the WTO’s general council on Wednesday. “We need to treat this whole issue with a sense of urgency.”
Shares in major pharmaceutical companies fell sharply following Ms Tai’s announcement, with Pfizer, Moderna, BioNtech and Novavax share prices plunging to session lows.
Facing questions about US support for the proposal as India and South America face alarming rates of infections, White House officials in recent days have pointed to other efforts to expand global vaccine production and distribution, with a patent waiver representing only a partial solution.
“Going back and forth, consuming time and lawyers in a legal argument about waivers – that is not the end game,” Dr Anthony Fauci, the president’s chief medical adviser, told Financial Times this week. “People are dying around the world and we have to get vaccines into their arms in the fastest and most efficient way possible.”
President Biden has sided with the people over big pharma companies. This is a big deal for our allies and friends around the globe. This move will cost big pharma money but it will save millions and millions of lives. This is the kind of heart our leaders should have. Thank you, Joe.

I give Opie a B+ for trolling in this one. Usually he puts minimal effort into his garbage, but actually suggesting our govt. is reducing profits of big pharmaceutical during this sh!t show is an angle fit for clown world and some top notch trololing.

Then make the law for PFE and MRNA and any others that got funding. There are dozens of smaller Pharms working on different solutions that received NO govt. funding who's market caps are getting decimated by this.
Every day, Biden puts on an entirely new display of how absolutely ignorant he is of how anything around him works, which is almost an amazing feat given how long he's been in government.

What is being missed is that India is being decimated now by covid19 and has 10 locations ready to make the vaccine as soon as this issue is settled.
Many people have reminded Joe that he made a campaign promise on this topic, which a few pbs news shows are running, so he is being pressed to live up to his campaign promise.

05-06-2021, 10:13 AM #8The cost of developing a single epidemic infectious disease vaccine from preclinical trials through to end of phase 2a is US$31–68 million (US$14–159 million range), assuming no risk of failure. We found that previous licensure experience and indirect costs are upward drivers of research and development costs. Accounting for probability of success, the average cost of successfully advancing at least one epidemic infectious disease vaccine through to the end of phase 2a can vary from US$84–112 million ($23 million–$295 million range) starting from phase 2 to $319–469 million ($137 million–$1·1 billion range) starting from preclinical. This cost includes the cumulative cost of failed vaccine candidates through the research and development process. Assuming these candidates and funding were made available, progressing at least one vaccine through to the end of phase 2a for each of the 11 epidemic infectious diseases would cost a minimum of $2·8–3·7 billion ($1·2 billion–$8·4 billion range).

You'd think that a two-bit troll like OP would have been banned a long time ago by now.

extremely short-sighted and just shooting ourselves in the foot for future drug developments when another pandemic comes along
what incentive will these companies have to invest billions into R&D if the government can just coopt their IP with the stroke of a pen?
absolutely retardedAwesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

It might feel like a technicality to some, but the government doesn't "coopt" something that only exists because they created some very artificial property right. The reason the government creates a 20 year monopoly is because it's supposed to be good for us. This is special, and it's a fcked up system that we even made to farm it out. It would be like worrying that Lockheed Martin had the patent on the nuke.
Just lol at suggesting nobody will race to another vaccine for something else if one is needed.

On this particular singular drug issue - **** Pfizer and these other subhuman companies. They already bypassed 90% of the usual process with the emergency authorizations and have been getting paid (way too much I'm sure) money by the government for this ****. If someone didn't take any government money, sure, don't expect them to hand over the rights to their drugs to foreign countries.
But also **** these other countries for wanting us to hand over this **** right away lol, I think we should, but all of these scum bags immediately steal any drug development that normally comes out of our country - resulting in our citizens paying out the ass while everyone outside of the country gets to enjoy generics based on stolen tech.#FreeCryptoBandit

Ok then let's hear what should happen to places like India where these are the latest facts and numbers.
"Total reported cases in the South Asian country currently stands at 21.49 million and fatalities exceed 234,000.
In just the last seven days, India has reported more than 2.7 million cases and over 25,700 deaths, or an average of at least 153 people dying every hour."
Just let them die, or intervene because this is a worldwide pandemic.? What is your solution? There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!
