So at work today I got notice from HR that I had to attend a mandatory diversity and culture meeting where they tell us what we can and can't say or something like that and talk about diversity. Me and another coworker said it's crazy and we aren't going and another one of my coworkers got mad and said "yes you are going, it's mandatory!" Dude legit just freaked out on us.

How can they make us attend stuff like this?

During the meeting, use their terms against them. Raise concerns that certain things are triggering you, or that you feel like you're being targeted and discriminated against. They would have nothing to say, as they would be going against their own stated goals.

They absolutely can do this, but if it's bad enough, just start your job search now.

Companies that get grifted into spending money on these trainings have bad judgment. If it's one of those private things where they have some expert paid to talk to you or have hired a diversity coach to produce nothing but diversity certificates, it's a red flag.

yeah those tests are a complete sham. they don't even measure what they are supposed to measure. it measures your awareness of a stereotype of a bias in general culture rather than yourself having a bias. they don't meet test-retest reliability either and aren't correlated with how you act in real life.

Jobs have mandatory requirements, this is nothing new to keep your job.
