I liked it at the time, but I was a kid. Later on I realized what low quality music it is ("grunge" music in general) and was no longer able to see the appeal.

the lyrics of music don't matter. you listen to music for the sounds. lyrics are a tool to make the sounds come off better.

think of the greatest pieces of music ever written, like Beethoven. there are no lyrics, just sounds.

Not true at all. Songs are how stories were told and remembered before writing. Singing is genetically grafted into our dna. That's why you can remember songs from when you were five even though you won't remember much else.
