Why Did Dusty Rhodes go back to wwf as the American Dream?

When I seen Dusty Rhodes show up in WWF as a plumber who ate out of the toilet or served food with dirty hands or even the vignette as a trash man, I thought he had personality. Add in the polka dots and the over weight woman of color Sapphire, you would have a recipe for a wrestler to fail.




but he managed to make it work, crowds loved him , his personality was unstoppable no matter what they gave him.

With that being said, WHY did he join wwf at the time to do all this nonsense? he seemed to have such a big role in other organizations what would make him jump at the chance to let vince attempt to humiliate him for the duration of that contract?

I was never a fan but he does have some charisma and was popular with a burial gimmick in wwe.

Agreed. I respect the work he did and recognize he was a pretty instrumental wrestler but I just never liked him and found him super annoying and not like heel heat but meh, I'll change the channel when he comes on

He was fired after the blood incident with the Road Warriors right after Turner bought JCP. I’m sure he went to the WWF for the big money like Harley did. If you believe what Marty Jannetty says, Dusty told Marty he “pissed it all away daddy” when he went to WWF

some of you guys have no respect for the legends that set the stages for alot of other stars now. Dusty was the guy that battled ric flair as his moral and physical opposite and they beat the chit out of each other for years. Flair was sylin and profilin with gold watches, Dusty was overweight and wore flannels representing the common fella that watched at home.

Ric flair said in his book or an interview that fans loved dusty so much that (believing wrestling was real) some of them attempted to stab him and made threats against him during their time down south.

i think its interesting that he was so respected in all other organizations, but vince had a hard on to humiliate him. beyond the polka dots and fat valet - vince named million dollar man's man servant 'Virgil' because thats dustys real name.

vince had laser focus to fuk with him as much as possible and he signed a contract to let it happen even longer
