i've never tried it but looked into it.
example. i looked at maybe selling my ram. it's 10 years old and i can probably get 10-15% more than what they offered if i sell it privately.
but you're telling me they'll show up, give me the payment in full, take the car away and handle the paperwork? and this will all happen within a week? man. might be worth it.

That’s legitimately how it works.
Every vehicle I’ve owned I immediately remove their logo/stickers/plate surrounds. My wife’s Tiguan still has the carvana plate surrounds and they’re the only dealership I’m willing to promote as they chit on local dealers when it comes to trade ins and their price on said Tiguan was on par with local “no haggle” dealerships.
I’ve bought and sold a ton of vehicles and by far the easiest to deal with has been carvana.

Yup. This is why whenever I buy things used I find someone with a reasonable sell price, show up with cash, inspect, and make sure everything is as described before leaving promptly. I love not paying the dealership premium especially on boats/atv/snowmobile/bikes and if enough people make it a hassle it won't be worth it before too long. Crazy that private sales are better for the seller and buyers usually still save a few thousand too.

Back in the day like 2008 I sold my 2003 POS Mini Cooper S to carmax for 10k, I think if I sold it privately I could have got about 12-13k, but the thing had so many issues that it was just so much easier to sell it to carmax and let them deal with it.

Two things in life right now that I'm aiming for: Getting big and very lean, and the other is making lots of money so I can shove it in peoples faces that didn't give me the time.

easiest car to sell is a reliable cheap car like a honda or toyota to a buyer you already know
sell it well above dealer trade in rate but lower than maximum private party rate and you both benefit and you dont waste time dealing with weirdos and you know there is a low chance that it breaks down after they just bought it from you so your friendship/business relationship isnt strained.

About a month ago, I used the KBB instant cash offer function to start the transaction. Price came back at high trade in number. Got a call from a local dealership within 10 minutes. Took it down there for them to inspect. They offered the same number, and I just said, ok, can I get it in writing and how long is the offer good for. They said, "what price will get you to sell it to us right now?" I added $1k to the price and they took it (should have added more).
This was $5k over what the Chevy dealership offered as a trade on my new truck.
