Food Face Off, post 22. Turkey vs Bison/buffalo/venison. Pick one.

These pictures were take 43 yards away from the back door of my house. I know not everyone has access to venison, so I lumped bison/buffalo into that choice. There are no free ranging buffalo/bison where I live, so I just lumped in the venison with the bison/buffalo.

A nice turkey and provolone sandwich with a slice of bacon sounds especially good right now though.

That feeder spins out corn every 2-3 hours from 7am to 7pm. There are a bunch of song birds that congregate under there, plus trashy birds like starlings. I snipe the starling with a rifle that I've zeroed the telescope to 43 yards. One time I crippled a starling and it was hopping along on the ground. Out of nowhere a hawk came down and pounced on the starling. It stood on it for about 30 seconds with its talons. Now mind you on the bird scale, it would be like getting stabbed with 8 steak knives in the chest on the human scale. After 30 seconds it flew off with the dead starling. Now the hawk sits on top of the feeder.

You actually feel a difference with good quality meats and bison is such great quality!

Venison kinda has a different taste, I only eat if id grind it and season it as Italian sausage. I was so lucky I dated a girl whose dad would hunt enough to give a bunch of us free venison that would last me all year. If I had to pay for it it would cost a fortune.

Turkey is good too but if I could pick one that I didn’t have to pay for bison all day.

I live in a shi# town. Google search "worst place to live in kansas" and coffeyville is #1 for the last 3 years. You can buy a 3 bedroom house with central heat/air for $9500 in a decent neighborhood. I've bought more than I can count on one hand.

The refinery keeps this town alive.

I saw a civilian get run over in the street by a military truck. The truck never stopped. I've never seen someone bleed so much from their head before. They never regained consciousness.

Other than that; duck, goose, quail, dove, chukar, pheasant, deer, elk, squirrel, rabbit, alligator, crawfish, snapping turtle, caviar, oysters, calamari, sushi. Some day I'd like to try the puffer fish they serve in Japan. It contains a trace amount of neurotoxins. The book and movie "The Serpent and the Rainbow" were loosely based on it. It causes partial paralysis.

omg!!!! 9500!?!?!? what's so bad about it? i worked in the west side of CHicago for the longest time can't picture anything being too much worse than that minus a buddy of mine who works out in Los Angeles. Police there might as well be wearing targets...and this was 15 years ago.

yeah you're getting screwed like we do out here, only benefit is the food. i have to admit whenever i go on vacation it's the one thing i miss most.

Meth and opioid use paid for by petty crimes. Low paying jobs. Unemployment. Lack of social settings (restaurants/bars). Falling property values. Every house that I bought for $9500 probably would sell for $40-$50,000 20 years ago.

The nail in the coffin was when Amazon moved their distribution facility to a large city 150 miles away. 1600 jobs gone overnight. Dirt on top of the coffin was when a copper wire mill relocated away. 300 jobs lost a month after the 1600 jobs were lost. County population is around 32,000.

My official day job is doing pre employment drug screens for now hires. I see pot, meth and opioids alot. ******* and PCP are pretty rare. ******s shows up occasionally.

Pot depends on body fat and the amount used. High fat, 30+ days. Lean, probably 2 weeks. A toke would probably result in a negative result after a few days.
Meth or coke, probably 5 days.
Benzodiazapams, probably 1 week.

I found half a dozen vials of substances that I can not list on a body building forum in a rental house after the tenants went home. The guy that wanted me to mail them back to him was about 5'4" and 110 lbs. He said it was for his horse and that a veterinarian in Mexico gave them to him.
