I’m new to weightlifting/fitness and I’m building up a regiment. I have a pretty good idea of what to do, but obviously there’s a ton of misinformation out there. What is some of the stupid/blatantly wrong crap you’ve heard before, and what is the actual truth?

I’m not sure what the worst advice is or was....but the best stuff I ever learned had to do with heavy duty style 5-6 reps training, only 3-4 days a week...45-60 min.....eat, lift, rest, grow, truth.
All that time spinning my wheels training 2 hours six days a week....blah."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Using high bar while squatting heavy, learned always low bar crew
Trying to do full body workouts everyday
Having knee surgery means you can’t deadlift or squat
Supplements can massively improve your workouts and Strength like pre-work out and whey
You can know exactly how many calories you burn doing cardio and have to eat them back essentially
If you don’t workout for a week or two weeks you’ll lose all your strengthSuperHercules crew

Compound lifts are all you need to do to train your abs.
When I started actually incorporating core work I felt so much more comfortable and stable IN not just compounds but all movements.26 years old

“Machines are junk”
“Cables are junk”
“Dumbbells are junk”
Etc.
None of it makes you smaller and all are useful tools for an intelligent and interesting design and approach."A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Basically anything dogmatic has been terrible advice. Approach the gym and training like an intelligent human being (scientific method). Try something, if it works, use it. If it doesn't, scrap it. If it keeps working, keep doing it. If it stops working, try something new. The goal should just be always improving (how you improve is up to you).

"225, 315, 405 whatever. Yeah these benchmark digits come to mean a lot to us, the few warriors in this arena. They are, however, just numbers. I'm guilty of that sh*t too, waiting for somebody to powder my nuts cuz I did 20 reps of whatever the **** on the bench. Big f*king deal. It is all relative." G Diesel
