    Blood testing?

I'm not sure if this is the correct section... I'm trying to learn more about how to go about getting my blood tested so I can see where my numbers are and establish a baseline of sorts.

I'm clueless and Google has not provided any clear info.

Where do I start? I'm in west central Florida if that helps.

What numbers are you taking about?
I can tell time. Time cannot tell me.

Formerly LactoseTolerant. I'm not very imaginative.

I do not know what they are specifically. I have just read a couple articles about the subject.

Basically getting a look at nutrition and hormone levels...those sort of things.

Stan Efferding has a video somewhere about how to get blood panel done and what to look for. Not done it myself. It's fine for looking for things like vitamin deficiencies but beware of the more outlanding claims like genetic tests and what have you.

Doctor here. If you are actually 40 it would not be a bad idea to establish with a primary care physician and get a general wellness exam. The only labs really worth checking are a lipid profile and glucose (while fasting). Otherwise if you have no health issues there is no need to check anything else (other than possibly screening for sexually transmitted infections) assuming you eat a generally healthy diet and live a generally healthy lifestyle.

Other labs that people get for screening purposes are generally not necessary, but if you wanted the basic ones then you could get a CMP, CBC, TSH, and urinalysis. A lot of people in the fitness world also check their testosterone; if you are curious about this make sure to get a total testosterone and a free testosterone, not just a full testosterone.

    Just my two cents.

I get blood work 1-2 times a year and usually it’s:

    CBC
    Metabolic Panel
Lipid Panel (ldl, hdl, triglycerides, total)
    HBA1C
    Thyroid Panel (with antibodies)
Male Hormone Panel (Total, Free, SHBG, estradiol, prolactin)
    C-reactive protein
    Vitamin D

I do not... I moved to Florida and have not got set up with one yet.

I like the idea of having a full set of numbers, including t levels because I feel like it would help me stay on track, no different than stepping on the scales.

Does a pcp provide these sort of tests or is it more of a specialized thing? If t levels are low then what?

Ask your doc which tests he/she recommends, what additional tests are available, then check with your insurance comp for coverage if cost may affect your decision.

You are 40, so as mentioned a decent PCP will want to do a physical and probably a lipid panel and glucose. If you have other concerns that you discuss with them, they may suggest others, like for example if you have history of cvd in your family etc. For T levels each doctor is different and it may depend on what you tell them your concerns or issues are .
