but there are talks about starting a BeNeLeague putting the "best" from Belgium and Holland together, if this were to go through it's comparable with what these 6 WHORE teams are trying to pull in your country
Meh the big difference is the lack of a fair relegation and promotion system. If they made the Beneliga with 9 teams from each country and then have the bottom two of each country relegate each year it's not even comparable to this closed off super league idea. Although I guess it does still hurt the smaller teams from each country, the potential to succeed is there. Smaller teams in the PL wouldn't even get a chance to ever compete is this superleage bs with this 15 founder team bs.

Personally I wouldn't mind setting up some European league system. Where you'd have a superleague kinda idea with 20 teams but then also a 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th division with relegation and promotion. You do have to figure out how the relegation and promotion would work between the bottom European league and the highest national leagues after that. But I can totally see why people would be opposed to an idea like this as well. It may hurt national traditional but in theory it could be fair and more entertaining.

Or you can have one 20 team league and have a playoff system with the winners of each domestic league fighting for the super league spot

I think its a really interesting concept. The way this one was proposed was horrible, and the format sucks but in general a shake up could be a great thing

The monopolisation of football by domestic FAs, Uefa and then Fifa respectively is another area that needs to be addressed

Not saying I want private equity and big investment banks to take the reigns, but a governing body run by clubs and clubs run by fans is the way. Dont see it ever happening though

If it was just about the quality football, just have the top two teams of the top eight leagues play each other in a knockout tournament. Pretty much the champions League without the group stages.

I do see the point that the CL is getting diluted with weaker teams, but a further tier for 'elite' just kills of any underdog type scenarios.

The CL like the FA cup wouldn't be too bad with the lower quality teams facing each other in earlier rounds then the better teams entering later on.

Hopefully all this shakes up the finance side of football because at the moment a few of the top leagues are dominated by the richest team purely because the others can't sign the same calibre of players and any they scout themselves or bring up from academies are poached from them.

Salary caps and transfer limits could be implemented but every league would have to follow the same limits

This is next level bs. It's all about money now with no passion for football left.

Apparently UEFA wants to ban players from those clubs from Euro this year. If this is true, just imagine how that would look like..

I think that would turn fans against UEFA as well.
Do whatever you want on a club level, but leave national teams and tournements out of it. Fukken lol at banning certain players from their national team, because of a decision made by their clubs. Makes zero sense, apart from applying pressure.

Football has been about money for a long time and FIFA and UEFA definitely have no high horse to sit on - dirty, corrupt organizations.
That being said, I have come to disagree with the super league.

The further Americanisation of our sport. Even the fcking 'streamlined' logos they give clubs when the take over makes me sick. There a chance, albeit slim, that Rangers and Celtic would be invited but and it would make us richer but oppose it.

There are world class players playing in smaller leagues like the Dutch or Portugese leagues, there is a far better distribution of talent in association football than American football. This will end that for good.

Teams used to be practically local identities for the working class when we were banned from playing rugby union (that's why rugby league formed too and why football become the most popular, Rugby was once called football here, they both were). Arsenal was the team for a munitions factory in London.

Absolutely, no way do they jeopardise the end of the UCL or the Euros and miss out on their money.

UEFA has been pumping out extra fixtures wherever they can for years now. At international level they added the Nations League, theres the EUFA super cup and the FIfa club world cup, they trying to extend the UCL, they're adding a "Europa League 2" next season UCL and UEL knockout games are now spread across weeks to maximise TV revenue.....

Theyre even trying to make pre season tournaments a thing, like the Audi cup

Theoretically you could play as much as 94 club games in a season now, not including any pre season or international games. Thats potentially 120+ with those included.

Players hate this, Kroos spoke out about it recently. Its all just further cash grabs but at the expense of the players

After looking further turns out Fifa are extending the Club World Cup to 24 teams shortly, originally they tried 32. European clubs association is trying to fight it, but Fifa are a monopoly and hold all the cards

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future...ld_Cup_(China)

They're also extending the World Cup to 48 teams from 2026

FIFA and UEFA are literally trying to do the same thing, but the moment anyone challenges their monopolistic status and threatens their income their condemn it

BTW the UCL extension would create 10 group stage games, 4 extra per team https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56573883

Also it includes 2 "Wild Card" spots for teams that didnt qualify but have good historic results in the UCL. Basically trying to avoid having the likes of Man Utd not in there because that harms their revenue, as they have the global following.

We need a more sensible structure but this is simply not the way.

Uefa and Fifa are corrupt as fuk, but dont make it out as if its a super league vs uefa/fifa debate. This involves every domestic league in europe.
Super league wants to play their games and then bring their excess cash to run their domestic leagues even more. Gtfo with that.

    Perez interview is interesting.

    Perez interview is interesting.

Pep Guardiola has slammed the proposed Super League:

"It is not a sport where the relation between effort and success does not exist. It is not a sport where success is already guaranteed or it doesn't matter where you lose"

"It is not fair when one team fight, fight, fight at the top and cannot be qualified because it is just for a few teams. The right people have the obligation, the duty, to clarify as soon as possible, clarify all around the world why these teams play and the others not. Ajax - with four Champions Leagues - why they are not there?"

Guardiola sarcastically claimed 'it is an honour' that he was the first person employed by City to publicly discuss the proposals.

The funny thing is in the the leagues where there is the least parity (Germany, Netherlands and France) those top teams aren’t signing up.

Bayern has won the last 9 league championships lol. How the fuk does anyone even watch that chit league?

Exactly so their whole year comes down to the UCL. This year they lost to PSG in the Quarter Final so literally the whole year the fans only get 2 games that were challenging and meaningful

This is why the idea doesnt suck, just implemented badly

Exactly, take Dortmund and Bayern out and the Bundesliga would be very interesting and the winner would change almost every year. A Super League that took these guys to a new tier might liven up these dead leagues

but what happens when someone like leipzig or whoever has financial clout just becomes the new bayern munich and wins the next few leagues in row. Do they get an invite to the super league

But the reason the Bundesliga teams aren't signing up is because of the 50+1 rule, who's entire purpose is to stop investors uprooting teams and turning them into revenue generating machines just like this. It would be very, very difficult for them to join without fan support, since the controlling share of their board is owned by club members.

How on earth do you come to this conclusion??!! This is the whole point in that the ESL will be no way fair (never adding more leauges to it)!!!

The main reason why PSG aren't involved is because they are partly owned by beIN sports who have partnerships with the champions league and the owners of PSG are invested in the Qatar world cup

Pretty interesting seeing the difference in opinion from Spanish fans. I just looked up Florentino Perez's interview on Youtube about the Super League and a lot of people are supporting him saying he's genius and UEFA is corrupt. Even some Barcelona fans are saying that he's saving Barca because they need money.

This is a comment from a Barcelona fan

"Soy fan del Barça pero este señor tiene mis respetos, Florentino es un genio como empresario y un visionario"

"I'm a fan of Barça but this man has my respect, Florentino is a genius as an entrepreneur and a visionary"

Because barca and real madrid have been a menace for years pricing everyone else out of buying good players, and spent their money recklessly tying players into long, expensive contracts.. look at guys like Bale and countinho, as well as messis contract. Without the super league, these clubs will struggle financially, as they should after the way they spend. But instead, they think they have a right to spend what they want and always be a successful and rich club, like it's owed to them. Also barca/real fans are generally a bunch of ****s.

They are also rustled that the EPL has basically been able to pull ahead of la liga due to it's TV rights and huge revenue in recent years, which is another reason they want the super league.
